wondering for those who are called Juliette (Juliet) whether they definitely get abbreviated to Julie/Jules etc or do they stay as Juliette. Not so keen on shortening names.

I have a ds but secretly love Juilette, don't know why, just do.

Not sure if i would use it for a dd, (although would want to) not brave enough. Use the long version. it's lovely.

ByTheSea · 18/04/2009 22:04

I love the name and think it's beautiful.

HeadFairy · 18/04/2009 22:05

I really like the name Juliette (prefer that spelling) I do have a friend called Juliet who we all called Jules at school, but she's back to Juliet now. I think it's a thing you go through.

You could always do the Italian version.. Guilietta. Might still get shortened to Jules though.

PurplePillow · 18/04/2009 22:07

I think it is a lovely name and would encourage it to be kept the way you would use it.

Some people try and shorten dd's name but I just say her full name so that they think about it

LaDiDaDi · 18/04/2009 22:09

I really like it too, I prefer Juliet as the spelling though I see I'm in the minority with that.

oopsacoconut · 18/04/2009 22:12

My aunt is Juliet and has never had it shortened to Jules, maybe because my grandparents never used a short version.

ilovemydogandMrObama · 18/04/2009 22:15

DD's middle name is Juliet.

Went through the spelling with the registrar and ended up looking it up in a dictionary. Juliette is the French spelling. Juliet is the English spelling, hence, Romeo and Juliet...

onadietcokebreak · 18/04/2009 22:25

Love it!

tummytickler · 18/04/2009 23:21

I love Juliet have considered it ourselves - we were going to use Etta for the nn - do you like that?

SK1980 · 19/04/2009 00:43

I love that name, Jules is nice too. :-)

violethill · 19/04/2009 09:58

Juliet is beautiful. Not so keen on the French spelling (unless you're French of course!)

PuppyMonkey · 19/04/2009 10:00

If you only ever call her Juliette, that's what she'll be called!

TenThousandSpoons · 19/04/2009 10:09

I'm Juliet. (Don't like the Juliette spelling but probably just because that's not my name!) Some family call me Jules. Friends from schoool/uni days all call me Ju and I was JuJu as a baby. At work I'm called Juliet and friends I have met as an adult all call me Juliet. Nobody has ever shortened it to Julie (which I wouldn't like). I think if you want it to stay as Juliet it will, and if you/dd herself wants to shorten it (I like Ju) then people will call her that. And by the way, I think it's a lovely name.

MrsMattie · 19/04/2009 15:29

I prefer the spelling Juliet, bit either way, it is a beautiful name. I know two Juliets and nobody ever calls them Jules/Julie etc.

Pennythecat · 22/04/2009 13:31

thanks and sounds like most prefer the spelling Juliet to Juliette

I love the name Juliet. Really classy but not over the top. I like the spelling Juliet but not the spelling Juliette which reminds me of a potato dish. Actually I am thinking of Julienne. But still. Just don't think that Juliette looks nice written down.

I also prefer Annabel to Annabelle and Vivien to Vivienne. Not sure why but extra letters can really kill a name.

sleepyhead3 · 22/04/2009 19:20

Juliet is a gorgeous name! Prefer the English spelling too.

pointydog · 22/04/2009 19:35

I knew a Juliet. She was just called Juliet. She didn't suit her name but that's by the by

Shoshe · 22/04/2009 19:55

MsMargotBeauregarde · 22/04/2009 20:06

Hi! I started a thread a while ago about the name Juliet for a little girl (we know we are having a girl). I was delighted by the positive response and we are pretty certain that our little one will be called this.

I am keen that it won't be shortened to Julie but don't mind Jules. I think if the parents only use Juliet it won't be shortened to Julie

wombleprincess · 29/04/2009 21:47

love juliette/juliet. great name. good dire straits song. even better shakespear charachter. knoew one called juju..

TaLcKy · 29/04/2009 21:47

Beautiful name.

g4grapes · 29/04/2009 22:02

It is a lovely name, and the french spelling is very pretty. I always wanted it, but MIL was Juliette and DH doesn't go in for naming after immediate family members (although she has passed away, which I think voids that last bit - another discussion!)She was always known by family and friends as Juliette, and I was a bit suprised at her funeral to hear work colleagues refer to her as Julie, but that's how she kept work and home separate.

Called DT1 Elizabeth as we liked Beth, but we now call her Belly so nothing ever works quite how you expect!
