Hi, I really love my half sisters name. It's Briony. I'd love to use that name if I had another little girl.
What do you think? Is it strange, will she find it strange?
I also like the names Matilda and Tallis.
Please be honest, as I know you are.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
everGreensleeves · 15/04/2009 18:51

Yes I'm sure you can! She would be delighted IMO

Mamazon · 15/04/2009 18:52

of course you can.

but im not keen on briony

everGreensleeves · 15/04/2009 18:53

I have a cousin called Bridie who is 11, I have a real soft spot for her and if we ever had a girl it would be on my list. I wouldn't expect her to take it as anything but a compliment.

squeaver · 15/04/2009 18:56

Of course you can, I very nearly called my dd my sister's name.

mummyloveslucy · 15/04/2009 19:07

Mamazon, why don't you like it? I'd like to know because I want to know what other people would think of it.
No one would tell you once you'd chosen the name.

I love Briony, I think it's sweet and pretty and not too little-girly for an adult

mummyloveslucy · 15/04/2009 19:08

squeaver- what's your sisters name?

Thank you everGreen.
From the moment my little sister was born I absoluitly adored her. She is such a lovely person, If I knew a horrible Briony, I might think differently.
I do have another sister, does this matter?

Yes, I did. He was delighted!

mummyloveslucy · 15/04/2009 19:31

What middle name would be good with it?
I was thinking Rose, grace or may.

Mamazon · 15/04/2009 19:54

dunno. there's nowt wrong with it. just not one i'd choose.

mummyloveslucy · 15/04/2009 19:56

What do you think of the other too. Tallis (Tally for short) and Matilda (Tilly for short) ?

MrsTittleMouse · 15/04/2009 19:57

I wouldn't - not as a first name, anyway. My Dad's attitude is that names are to distinguish family members from each other, which makes a lot of sense to me. We don't do the Jr, Sr, III, IV thing either.

mummyloveslucy · 15/04/2009 20:00

Oh, o.k. Fair enough.
I've mentioned names before and someone said oh no, it reminds me of .... (something horrid) and I've thought yep lucky escape.

My DS is named after my step-dad. I think if someone if that special to you it is a lovely thing to do.

ramonaquimby · 15/04/2009 20:02

you know - if you have 2 sisters I don't think such a great idea - one of them will feel left out even if they never say so.

ramonaquimby · 15/04/2009 20:03

meant to add, what about Brinley - love this name. not sure I've spelled it correctly tho

ingles2 · 15/04/2009 20:06

I love Briony.
How about Bailey or Bay? That's close..ish

lalalonglegs · 15/04/2009 20:54

Yes, you can - whole heap of Dantes in my family (including ds). But I also have a Matilda so would definitely recommend that.

gladders · 16/04/2009 16:55

i know a tallis. not sure it's a proper name really... a surname yes but not a first name?

mummyloveslucy · 16/04/2009 16:58

Hi, yes it is a real first name. It's english and means forehead.

I'm not too sure either though as I think a lot of people would think the same.

In some cultures it is a bit as we found out when we almost gave DS his grandfathers name as a middle name. Aparently in some parts of the world you only use them if the 'original' person is dead.

funnypeculiar · 16/04/2009 17:07

I would probably keep it for a second name - esp if you have too sisters ...

Both of my kids have second names for living relatives - one of which is my sister She was utterly charmed and rather tearful at the news.

funnypeculiar · 16/04/2009 17:08

I like Tallis - bit different & strong, but eminantly spellable

SalopianGirl · 16/04/2009 20:06

My middle name is Briony
I like it because its different from the "usual" middle names of Louise,Jane,Ann etc.
