We like it but don't want there to be 5 in the class if we have a girl...

thisisyesterday · 14/04/2009 19:29

i think it has risen in popularity in the last few years.
that said I don't think I know any

MrsMcCluskey · 14/04/2009 19:29

I dont know any, I love the name!

LibrasJusticeLeagueofBiscuits · 14/04/2009 19:30

Never thought of it before but it's lovely.

Mimsy2000 · 14/04/2009 19:31

I know several

ShowOfHands · 14/04/2009 19:33

Fairly popular. I have one, as do 2 other women on my postnatal thread.

MintyyAeroEgg · 14/04/2009 19:35

I know four little Matildas.

Ewe · 14/04/2009 19:35

I have one and don't know any but always get told on here it is v.popular.

There was however a baby on Jeremy Kyle called Tilly which I think is always a sign it is getting popular

TheOldestCat · 14/04/2009 19:35

I don't know any and have a 2-yr-old. It's a gorgeous name.

SalBySea · 14/04/2009 19:36

yes there's lots of little Tillys around

hazeyjane · 14/04/2009 19:41

I know about 6, through friends and toddler groups.

However I also know 4 lo's with dd2's name , and I still think it is perfect and suits her. If you love a name then I don't think it matters if it is popular.

One of the girls i know with dd's name is the same age as her, and is like a negative of her (ie she has short, straight dark hair and dd has short, white, curly hair), and they each suit their name so well it is almost like they have different names (Do I make sense, at all!? I'm a bit knackered)

sazinthefamilyway · 14/04/2009 19:42

OK, will have to toss up how much we like it versus how much we care that there are several out there. It is lovely...

None at ds1's school or the associated primary school, or at any of the toddler groups we go to.

I like it.

ohdearwhatamess · 14/04/2009 19:46

ds1's pre-school

sarahken · 14/04/2009 20:00

I'm thinking of calling my baby Iris Matilda if its a girl, due in 5 weeks time. Don't know any Iris's or any Matilda's. My ds is a Jack so wanted something not as popular this time. Don't think Matilda is overly popular, but not too unusual if you know what I mean.

YesSirICanBoogie · 14/04/2009 20:23

I think it depends where you live. I've got a Matilda and I've never heard of another one near us.
So depressed about the Jeremy Kyle story!!! Also heard that someone pregnant on Coronation Street is thinking of calling the baby Tilly so maybe it's on the way up!

feedthegoat · 14/04/2009 20:30

I know of two (through friends).

Hulababy · 14/04/2009 20:32

I love the name and it is on my shortlist if I ever do have another child.

I know of one other child called Matilda/Tilly - was in DD's school, but left for high school last year.

I think it is relatively popular - appears on top 100 names for girls.

Ewe · 14/04/2009 20:33

It depressed me YesSir... I couldn't even bring myself to watch for long enough to find out who the real Dad was

RaspberryBlower · 14/04/2009 20:37

I went to baby massage and there was a Mathilda there, then I went to 'sing and sign' and there was one there.

So I suppose it must be fairly popular for new babies where I live, at least amongst the kind of mums who go to these kinds of classes.

sleepyhead3 · 14/04/2009 20:55

Popular around here I'm afraid- lovely name though.

SouthernMeerkat · 15/04/2009 13:29

I have one too - she's nearly 4 and when we chose it it was outside the top 100 (just). It's now well inside, although there are no other Matilda/Tillys at her nursery.

We had a lot of positive comments about choosing Matilda, although she is known as Tilly. I think if you love it, then go with it.

(One of my best AN friends has a Jack - she had NO idea that it was the number 1 name, and had been for ever - she just loved it, and so far, her Jack has been unique in a class when attending activities/school).

ruddynorah · 15/04/2009 13:37

i have one who's nearly 3. the year she was born it was no. 69 in the top 100 names. last year it was top ten. so i don't expect there'll be any others in her class but there be some a few years younger.
