We like it but don't want there to be 5 in the class if we have a girl...

Yes it is increasing in popularity but you cannot just pick a name because it is "unpopular" can you?

If you like the name then go for it

I think that Cate Blanchett called her girl Matilda too???
Its alovely name and would name a girl that but being Australian she would get the piss taken regularly.
If you are not based in Australia then go for it.

Shoshe · 15/04/2009 16:15

Cate Blanchette has three sons?

LouIsAHappyLittleVegemite · 15/04/2009 16:34

Ok so I have it wrong but there is sone Australian celebrity that called her kid matilda. Bit silly I thought as that kid will get teased her wholel life in Australia.

Very popular round here I'm afraid. Lovely name though.

Shoshe · 15/04/2009 16:44

lou think you are thinking of Heath Ledger, his daughter is called Matilda

LouIsAHappyLittleVegemite · 15/04/2009 16:59

I am sunburnt - you could call me Winston and I would probably answer.

LouIsAHappyLittleVegemite · 15/04/2009 18:56

I went to the Isles of Scilly for Easter and am now in Frankfurt.

Anythingwithagiraffeonit · 25/04/2011 02:46

My DD is called Matilda (Tilly) and I already know of three others... Plus a tortoise!! Lol!

CarefulWithThatAxeEugene · 25/04/2011 11:15

Matilda is a fine name, a name for a medieval queen. Historically it was often shortened to Maud.

Matty I could live with as a nn. Tilly on the other hand is a dog's name - I know of six dogs around here called Tilly.

MelinaM · 25/04/2011 11:39

I know of 6 little Matilda's/Tilly's all in the 0-4 age bracket, three of which have the middle name Rose! I really do think it's going to continue creep up the popularity ladder as the year progressesSmile

JiltedJohnsJulie · 25/04/2011 11:44

Only know one Matilda and met another in the park once, do know a couple of Tillys too. I much prefer Matilda.

zozzle · 25/04/2011 20:47

I know 4 Matildas/Tillys.

TurtlesAreRetroRight · 25/04/2011 23:12

Zombie thread! I posted on it two years ago.

It's actually started going back down the charts. Tilly is far more popular I think as it's used on its own and as an abbreviation. DD is Tilda and we know no others.

It's not stupidly popular, is a classical name and I think has peaked.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 26/04/2011 16:41

Never even noticed that the OP posted over 2 years ago Blush

pilates · 26/04/2011 17:26

I don't know any, its a great name, love it.

DialsMavis · 26/04/2011 19:25

I have a Tilda too, but she is only 5 months old. She is the only Matilda/Tilda/Tilly we know.

MayBankHoliday · 26/04/2011 23:53

It's quite fashionable (if not faddy) ATM.

bananamom · 26/04/2011 23:54

I know of about 7 under 5s called Matilda.
