Edith?

Shortened to Edie...is it lovely or old lady-ish? I can't decide. Dh loves it but I have an ancient auntie Edie (distant enough not to be a problem either way) and I think it might be putting me off

I think it's nice. Old-fashioned yes but nice.

ScottishThistle · 10/04/2009 17:19

I really like Edith

shonaspurtle · 10/04/2009 17:26

I know a 24 year old Edith who is so utterly lovely that it's completely moved the name into the 21st century for me. I don't think of old ladies when I hear the name, just her.

nappyaddict · 10/04/2009 17:26

Love it

MagNacarta · 10/04/2009 17:30

Tis common in these parts along with all the other old lady type names.

Heated · 10/04/2009 17:37

I know a few, one who is 24, another 14 & a couple pre school age so it's not so unusual that people would look askance.

It's a beautiful name in its own right imo, without shortening it.

I like it.

chequersmate · 10/04/2009 18:39

Hate it.

Edie slightly better but not great.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 10/04/2009 18:45

Lovemyshoes · 10/04/2009 18:46

horsemadgal · 10/04/2009 19:17

Not keen on Edith, but do like Edie.

rachels103 · 11/04/2009 13:34

I know a 1 year old Edith and the name really suits her.

lovelybones · 11/04/2009 23:12

love Edie, I also had an Auntie Edie who was a real character so its a thumbs up from me

fatzak · 11/04/2009 23:28

My Nan is Edith and I never imagined her name would become popular again but I love it for little girls now.

If you want a laugh, my Nan went through a spell of pretending that she was called Elaine as she thought it was a more modern name

Love it. I know a 7-year-old Edith/Edie, and she loves it too.

pranma · 12/04/2009 22:21

I know a gorgeous Swiss Edith[25]who pronounces it 'Ay-deet'

piscesmoon · 12/04/2009 22:28

Old ladyish. It is better than some of that era, but I don't like the era in general.

ItsMargotBeaurEGGarde · 12/04/2009 22:30

I love it. Not keen on Iris, very harsh, but I do love Edith. Old lady yes, but it's a pretty and elegant sound. I like Edie too, just please not Eden. STripper/lap dancer/pole dancer's fake name.

SK1980 · 13/04/2009 00:18

Love it - I also love Elsie and Enid! :-)

OAPmum · 22/04/2009 19:00

One of those names which will no doubt have a come back - like Doris and we will all get used to it. It was my mother's name - Edith Annie known as Nan or Nancy

pointydog · 22/04/2009 19:15

I like Edie and I like the sound of Edith, although it doesn't have great connotations.

sleepyhead3 · 22/04/2009 19:19

Edie is quite sweet as a nn.
