Shortened to Edie...is it lovely or old lady-ish? I can't decide. Dh loves it but I have an ancient auntie Edie (distant enough not to be a problem either way) and I think it might be putting me off

Elsie is better than Edith or Enid IMO

LetThemEatCake · 22/04/2009 19:32

really don't like Edie or Edith. Or Elsie, come to think of it.

ravenAK · 22/04/2009 19:35

Love it. Extremely cool.

Would've been a contender for dds but dh is Edward & ds Edmund...

Love Edie, not so sure about Edith. I can understand why you might want to have the longer name on Birth Certificate though, so go for it if you don't mind Edith.

Edith is my middle name and I grew up hating it and found it incredibly embarrassing. However, times have changed and it is now quite fashionable again.

pandavark · 23/04/2009 11:08

it's a good name. its not old ladyish

Tortington · 23/04/2009 11:09

larvely

TsarChasm · 23/04/2009 11:12

Edie isn't too bad. Edith could be revived I guess. I'm not too sure.

It's a little to close to Ethel maybe.

I imagine an Edith to be a 'thoroughly good sort' in a Mallory Towers book.

Too old lady for me.

Clary · 24/04/2009 23:34

It's such a lovely name , and contrary to received MN wisdom, is not that popular.

I know one and know of another under about 30 (apart from the Radio 1 DJ).

And I know a lot of children.
