I really like Ursula.

Ponders · 27/03/2009 21:57

I know an Ursula (named for Women in Love) & Ursula le Guin had a prog on R4 recently - an excellent classy name.

Gemma OK, but not at all classy.

GossipMonger · 27/03/2009 21:57

Gemma

Ursula is the name of the evil sea witch in The Little Mermaid!!

Ursula is vile! (IMVHO)

really??

Ponders · 27/03/2009 21:57

It means Little Bear you know (awwww)

gemma......ursula is not good imo. definitely the sea witch....

piscesmoon · 27/03/2009 22:13

I don't like Ursula.
I think that Emma is a lovely name-without the G.

dinkymum · 27/03/2009 22:13

definitely Gemma for me

Bumperlicioso · 27/03/2009 22:14

Neither, I think Gemma is really 'of its time', and Ursula is just a bit harsh.

Ponders · 27/03/2009 22:17

NB - "based on". Disney invented Ursula - a good reason to use it & ignore the cartoon version IMO

controlfreakythecontrolfreak · 27/03/2009 22:18

they are completely different.... different connotations / different feel.... not like choosing between two similar names.

ursula every time for me.
no one is likely to like them both. they will polarise people...

Bumperlicioso · 27/03/2009 22:19

What about Emily, a bit like Gemma but more timeless?

They are both such different names what is it about them you both like?

snice · 27/03/2009 22:22

I'm intrigued by this-I would have guessed that two entirely unrelated people had chosen these names as they are so different.

controlfreakythecontrolfreak · 27/03/2009 22:23

i think they did... the dad and the mum! just guessing..... one side of the family is not going to be happy!

WinkyWinkola · 27/03/2009 22:33

I don't like either.

Ursula - because of the way you have to shape your mouth like a sneer when you say.

Gemma - Bit dull, I'm afraid. Jemima is much better.

Ponders · 27/03/2009 22:36

"Ursula - because of the way you have to shape your mouth like a sneer when you say"

No you don't! It's a pout, not a sneer!

WinkyWinkola · 27/03/2009 23:14

I curl my lip when I say, "Ursula,"

P'raps I'm saying it wrong!

Ursula is a lovely name. But if you spellcheck it, it comes up as "Arousal" (!)

Gemma - well, not really, it's very of it's time, no? That's not this time.

NotanOtter · 27/03/2009 23:17

ursula but love women in love

gemma soooo different i am surprised you are down to these two....
