thanks in advance for your thoughts

is Sophie/Sophia more 'of the moment' than the above two names?

who wants to be of the moment?? Anna and Emma are gorgeous. Anna is my personal fav of the two - but only cos DH has a dodgy friend called emma who is mean...

Sorrento · 25/03/2009 09:19

I like Sophia personally and Emma has had a bit of a revival around here, Anna has always been quite popular but then they are beautiful names.

Jojay · 25/03/2009 09:21

Anna and Emma much nicer than Sophia IMHO

screamingabdab · 25/03/2009 10:53

I like Anna and Emma, Anna just pips it for prettiness

Sophia too "posh" , but Sophie is nice.

Sophie is more commonplace, though

What about Christina?

RachieB · 25/03/2009 11:43

I like

Sophie then Emma then Anna ( which is a bit "bland" for me)

beaniepix · 25/03/2009 12:06

If it makes any difference to you, Sophie was 6th most popular girls name in 2008 (according to list reported in Telegraph, apparently compiled by Bounty). Emma was 24th, Sophia 38th and Anna 58th.

When you say 'of the moment' do you want a popular name or wishing to avoid names that are being used a lot?

I love all the names, but agree with screamingabdab that Sophia, although lovely, sounds a little 'posh'.

MargotBeauregardesGavel · 25/03/2009 12:37

I really like both of those and they are very classic btu I feel the urge to spice up both names. Anna to Annabel and Emma to Gemma or Jemma. Nothing wrong with Anna or Emma though. Some people are less is more types and I like a bit more. IYKWIM

ps I like Sophie but change it to Susie and I'd prefer it. Far fewer of them.

screamingabdab · 25/03/2009 14:52

What about Nigel?

TheSonnets · 25/03/2009 19:31

I like Anna the most.I think this is a lovely name not bland but classic.I've only known a few Annas and they have all been pretty

Emma is also a good choice .Not keen on Sophie .

EdwardBear · 25/03/2009 19:33

anna is dull, emma is classic and sounds beautiful, sophie nice too (not too keen on sophia)

katz · 25/03/2009 19:34

Anna is a beautiful name although i may be biasied as i have an Annalise.

tassisssss · 25/03/2009 19:40

I like them both a lot. Like Sophie too, but agree it's commoner stm!

KERALA1 · 25/03/2009 19:44

Just dont like Sophie. Dont like the way it sounds - always thought it sounded abit like "soppy" but thats just me. Can't understand its popularity.

Emma - no way but due to personal reasons.

Anna - all the Annas I have known have been really nice people so biased in favour of it.

The name thing is just so subjective!

nappyaddict · 25/03/2009 21:04

I prefer Anna. Emma and Sophie are more common than Anna/Anne I think.

Kotek · 09/04/2009 00:33

thanks all for your feedback

beaniepix - thanks for the statistics. I prefer a name that is a bit more classic than 'of the moment'

I would definitely choose Anna - it's a beautiful name.

emmaa1973 · 13/04/2009 20:43

Anna or Emma - I'm one, best friend is the other, as a teacher in a girls school, definately more Emma's - more common now than when i was at school but as a result, less ridiculed!

Hulababy · 13/04/2009 20:44

I think Emma, Anna and Sophia are all classic names. I think I like Anna best.

janeite · 13/04/2009 20:45

Emma and Anne (rather than Anna) feel equally classic; Emma slightly less so - but I think I only think that because Anne and Emma are both Jane Austen heroines!

Sophie feels more modern, though I don't think it actually is - but I don't like it!

Emma is the nicest imho.

jkklpu · 13/04/2009 20:46

Anna, definitely - classic and also v international, more so than Emma (apart from Mme Bovary)

ohdearwhatamess · 13/04/2009 20:57

Anna, Emma both excellent classic choices. Emma the better of the two imho.

Not so keen on Sophie/Sophia. Always thought them a bit 'wet'.
