thanks in advance for your thoughts

is Sophie/Sophia more 'of the moment' than the above two names?

Anna, Emma both excellent classic choices. Emma the better of the two imho.

Not so keen on Sophie/Sophia. Always thought them a bit 'wet'.

Anna, definitely - classic and also v international, more so than Emma (apart from Mme Bovary)

Emma and Anne (rather than Anna) feel equally classic; Emma slightly less so - but I think I only think that because Anne and Emma are both Jane Austen heroines!

Sophie feels more modern, though I don't think it actually is - but I don't like it!

Emma is the nicest imho.

I think Emma, Anna and Sophia are all classic names. I think I like Anna best.

Anna or Emma - I'm one, best friend is the other, as a teacher in a girls school, definately more Emma's - more common now than when i was at school but as a result, less ridiculed!

I would definitely choose Anna - it's a beautiful name.

thanks all for your feedback

beaniepix - thanks for the statistics. I prefer a name that is a bit more classic than 'of the moment'

I prefer Anna. Emma and Sophie are more common than Anna/Anne I think.

Just dont like Sophie. Dont like the way it sounds - always thought it sounded abit like "soppy" but thats just me. Can't understand its popularity.

Emma - no way but due to personal reasons.

Anna - all the Annas I have known have been really nice people so biased in favour of it.

The name thing is just so subjective!

ps I like Sophie but change it to Susie and I'd prefer it. Far fewer of them.

I really like both of those and they are very classic btu I feel the urge to spice up both names. Anna to Annabel and Emma to Gemma or Jemma. Nothing wrong with Anna or Emma though. Some people are less is more types and I like a bit more. IYKWIM

If it makes any difference to you, Sophie was 6th most popular girls name in 2008 (according to list reported in Telegraph, apparently compiled by Bounty). Emma was 24th, Sophia 38th and Anna 58th.

When you say 'of the moment' do you want a popular name or wishing to avoid names that are being used a lot?

I love all the names, but agree with screamingabdab that Sophia, although lovely, sounds a little 'posh'.

I like

Sophie then Emma then Anna ( which is a bit "bland" for me)

I like Anna and Emma, Anna just pips it for prettiness

Sophia too "posh" , but Sophie is nice.

Sophie is more commonplace, though

What about Christina?

I like Sophia personally and Emma has had a bit of a revival around here, Anna has always been quite popular but then they are beautiful names.
