Your thoughts as a possible boy's name, please. Pronounced to rhyme with Ryan. Also considering Kiron. (Like, but can't have Kieron as name of an ex.)

a tad silly

sazlocks · 17/03/2009 21:55

sorry but sounds a bit chavtastic to me.

shonaspurtle · 17/03/2009 21:56

What about Ciaran which is the original Irish spelling of Kieron?

ravenAK · 17/03/2009 21:58

Ceiran or Keiran?

Kyan does have that 'oops, we just upended the Scrabble bag & hoped for the best' feel about it, tbh.

Sorry.

feedthegoat · 17/03/2009 22:00

Really don't like it.

Heated · 17/03/2009 22:01

Wouldn't personally be my choice. Sorry.

Littlefish · 17/03/2009 22:30

Sounds made up.

Would mayve second the vote for Cian/Kian but Kyan isnt terrible heard alot worse think ppl are just wary as it is unusual and does seem made up but if it wasnt I think it would be a lot more favourable. I guess all names had to start somewhere!

piscesmoon · 17/03/2009 22:49

It sounds made up to me.

mrsruffallo · 17/03/2009 22:50

Don't like it, sorry

RockinSockBunnies · 17/03/2009 22:53

Not a fan, sorry. Sounds like a made-up name that no-one will be able to pronounce.

screamingabdab · 17/03/2009 23:02

Sorry, don't like it.

Are there any other names you like?

seeker · 17/03/2009 23:13

You can't have Kieran but you can have Kiron - which is pronounced practically the same? [baffled emoticon]

How about Kier - which has the built in advantage of actually being a name?

SoupDragon · 17/03/2009 23:14

Both Kyan and Kiron are cr*p.

screamingabdab · 18/03/2009 08:36

rosebud05 Any more suggestions so we can shoot them down in flames and ruin your dreams offer constructive criticism?

Nancy66 · 18/03/2009 10:17

Screamingabdab - she asked what people thought of her name. The concensus is that most people don't like it.
How do you be constructive about a name you don't like?

lljkk · 18/03/2009 10:21

My neighbour's grandson is called Kyan. I keep mixing it up with Kieran.
er, what about Alexander or Timothy instead.

lastboxoftampons · 18/03/2009 12:10

I kind of like Kyan. Helps that there is an incredibly hot guy (although unfortunately gay) on the American show Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.

Don't like Kiron - would go with Kieran even though it's an ex's name if you really like it that much.

barleycorn · 18/03/2009 12:15

I like Kyan. But how about Kiran? That's Indian, we were going to call ds that but sil just beat us to it with Kieran - the cousins' names would have been too similar.

Jux · 18/03/2009 12:20

It's my bf's surname.

Rosebud05 · 18/03/2009 13:19

Thanks, ladies. It's interesting to do a random straw poll like this, as in people who I've ran it by in RL have liked it (people who would be straight with me, btw). I'm not sure of my thoughts about it, but it's not made up, at least not by me (re: 'Queer eye...). Have vaguely thought about similar names eg Kiron.

BTW can someone enlighten me as to what 'chavtastic' means, please? Am I right in thinking that it basically means 'not middle-class'?

OP posts:
paolosgirl · 18/03/2009 13:29

No, it's not to do with class - it's more about fashion and attitude.

Another "no" to Kyan here - it's sounds made up, and perhaps the name you would give to a pet? Sorry.

Heated · 18/03/2009 13:55

'chavatastic' equivalent to 80s Sharon/Tracey/Wayne/Bazza

(apologies to MN Waynes & Bazzas I've just offended )

wabbit · 18/03/2009 14:06

rosebud you not from round these parts?

Chav - paolosgirl's right, it's not to do with class, but perhaps more to do with social ettiquette and education as well as fashion and attitude. I think it could be assumed that 'chavs' don't adhere to social niceties, do dress in shell-suits/trakkies/baseball caps/trainers
Chav is a very non PC expression - but broadly used

There - huge generalisation that i'm going to be shot down for
