Just wondering whether to risk a popular name.

1 at DCs school (year 2) but agree about rugby teams they always have one and our local cricket club has several (ages about 8+)

ChasingSquirrels · 09/03/2009 23:06

1 in his class (yr 2 boy).
1 in his year (yr 1 boy).
My friend has 1 (yr 2)

MamaG · 09/03/2009 23:07

none. 5 and 9

smartiejake · 09/03/2009 23:08

I work in a junior school with 250 children. There are no Olivers, although my 7 year old nephew has this name.

singersgirl · 09/03/2009 23:13

DS1 (Y6) - none
DS2 (Y3) - 2

I know quite a few more - there seems to be one in every extra-curricular class my DSs do; I also have 2 close friends with Olivers (aged 8 and 2).

LunarSea · 10/03/2009 09:21

Have a look here - according to this roughly 1 in 94 children so far this year is an Oliver. So chances of another one in the same class are probably still quite low.

In schools with multiform entries they do try to avoid having multiple children with the same name in a class if they can I think - certainly the Archies, Harrys, Amelies and Millie/Millys (2 of each) and the 3 Alex/Alexanders were all split in ds's (2 form entry) year. They struggled a bit more with the 5 James's (and a Jamie), though.

I have exactly the same problem. Love the name Oliver but worried about its popularity. I know 3 baby Olivers and 2 teenagers. I really think it depends on area/social circles. Anyone else who works in the City/London and lives in the home counties know loads of Olivers?

MollieO · 10/03/2009 10:11

1 (mine!). No others in the year and there were none at his nursery (he is 4.5). Hates being called Oliver though and insists that he is Ollie.

Polgara2 · 10/03/2009 10:12

1 (y7)

MollieO · 10/03/2009 10:12

We are Home Counties and we don't know any other Olivers.

BikeRunSki · 10/03/2009 10:17

There are 4 in our baby club, all about 6 months old.

lunamoon2 · 10/03/2009 17:24

At least it is a "real" name.(if that is the correct word)
I think it is a great name no matter how popular, timeless too!

LavenderStar · 11/03/2009 12:39

Me too and wouldn't mind if he was perhaps one of a couple of Olivers, just not sure how I would feel if there were three, four, five etc Olivers in his class at nursery/school/Uni etc. I guess it is like the Davids or Richards of today.

WowOoo · 11/03/2009 12:42

1 in nephew's class and other in the other class (year 1.
Don't know any of ds' friends 2.5 with that name.

McDreamy · 11/03/2009 12:43

none. Only know 2, my nephew and my brothers nephew. One 2 and the other 3!

Wolfblass · 11/03/2009 13:15

DD is 5 - reception class. Has recently moved schools, in her last school there were 5 out of 40 children (including girls), this school is very small (5 in total) and there is 1 - dd is the only girl.

RachieB · 11/03/2009 22:46

none

SofaQueen · 11/03/2009 22:58

Ds1 is Oliver. Has another Oliver in his year.

We know loads of Olivers in all years (didn't know any when we named him. When he was born, live in a very international area with few "typical" English names. Now live in a very middle class English area with loads of Olivers.

christywhisty · 11/03/2009 23:34

DS yr8 He never mentions any at school
DD yr6 had one Oliver in her class and a boy with a brother called Oliver, think he is Yr4

gigglewitch · 11/03/2009 23:37

Aefondkiss · 12/03/2009 00:01
