I've never met a Tarquard or a Bear in real life.

i've met weirder in real life

Racingsnake · 28/02/2009 21:19

There is a Bear in the village where I teach. Son of Rolf Harris, apparently - I haven't met him!

peachespaige · 01/03/2009 08:30

Well I know 2 Merlins, 1 Gypsy and 1 King!!! How Fab. My friends knows a set of twins called Melody and Harmony (she is also called Melody)

MrsMattie · 01/03/2009 08:30

Somebody posted a thread a while ago about the name Herman. I think my response was the standard MN: 'Oh, FFS!'.

Racingsnake · 02/03/2009 20:26

Herman is a perfectly good German name! And what about Herman's Hermits?

ADealingMummy · 02/03/2009 21:07

I know a Merlin and a Digby .

Mumcentreplus · 02/03/2009 21:17

I know a Melody...she's about 33 now...

dizzydixies · 02/03/2009 21:18

I know a Zeff

QueenFee · 02/03/2009 21:21

I went to school with a Herman - And he had chosen it himself as an alternative to his chinese name.

TheRealSecretLemonadeDrinker · 02/03/2009 21:21

Krythia

annasmami · 02/03/2009 22:18

Herman is definately a perfectly normal German and Scandinavian name!

LynetteScavo · 02/03/2009 22:20

I've never met a Ptolomy.

Not posh, me.

LynetteScavo · 02/03/2009 22:22

Queen Fee, I went to school with quite a few Chineese people who had funny English names they had chosen.

I also went to school with a Herman, but he was German.

I've just realised we could have called him Herman the German, but didn't.

FAQinglovely · 02/03/2009 22:23

I think my DS's are the only ones with their names on MN.

DS1 even had the dubious honour of having his name mentioned in a thread last year with a "FFS what sort of a name is ^that" attached to it

MmeLindt · 02/03/2009 22:24

Hermann is an old mans name in Germany though. It would be like calling your son Ebenzezer.

minouminou · 02/03/2009 22:25

Frodo.
Really.
His mum won't let me talk to him or his sister as she's scared they may catch Northern.

LynetteScavo · 02/03/2009 22:28

The Herman I went to school with was a bit strange. He kept himself to himself, was very square, and when I asked him what his dad did for a living he said he "wrote formulars"

I bet he's still single.

EntersStageLeft · 02/03/2009 22:31

I'm really sorry but may I draw your atention to the unnecessary apostrophe in your thread title? [pedant emoticon]

And in regards to your OP: who the fuck considers Xanthe? Or at least, I suppose, considers is ok, no one should name their child thus.

pulapula · 02/03/2009 23:19

Based on what stands out from all these name threads, I guess it would have to be Geronimo, Boedicea and BJ (!). I'm sure i've heard loads more, but i just laugh and then forget most of them.

MrsSchadenfreude · 02/03/2009 23:31

Pula - did you know that your name (your MN name, not your RL name, obv) means cock in Romanian? As in penis, not male chicken?

MarmadukeScarlet · 02/03/2009 23:35

Hobie and CJ (although not as odd as BJ!!), two brothers - one named after a boat.

A (Chinese) King

sonnieboo · 03/03/2009 09:16

There is actually a little 4 year old Herman at my ds's nursery. His brother is Lucas and his parents are Swedish.

belgo · 03/03/2009 09:21

the belgian prime minister is called Herman.

smileycat · 03/03/2009 10:33

my friend named her DD Lyric - I've never heard it since, but it really suited her

heartmoonshadow · 03/03/2009 10:56

I went to school with a boy called Remco - I have no idea where his parents got that!
