We decided more or less this morning that bump to be is to be called Harry Joseph...

Just had a call from my mum informing me that her sister, my auntie (my age) has called her baby HARRY!!!

Now i need suggestions as we are at a real loss..

I would like something strong and traditional but not too poular (now i realise Harry is far more popular than i thought, but i honestly don;t know of ay in our area and have had many people 'research' that for me!)

DD is Georgia-Mae and the surname is Wellard so needs to go with those.

You could maybe use Henry - Harry is short for that and when they are older perhaps he could be 'Harry'.

Leo9 · 27/02/2009 14:28

Edward?

Thomas/Tom?

James?

mrsfossil · 27/02/2009 14:28

Hi thats bad luck especially if you had your heart set on it. How about one of these

Alfie,
Morgan,
Isaac,
Lucas,

best of luck

Ceolas · 27/02/2009 14:30

How often would you see the 'other' Harry? I called my daughter the same name as one of my cousin's children but we only see each other about 3-4 times a year (if that).

Lizzylou · 27/02/2009 14:30

What about:

Henry
Thomas
Edward
Joel
Jacob
Benedict
Theo

DS1 is Harry, tis a lovely name and not popular round here either.

Wolfblass · 27/02/2009 14:30

I love Henry, dp doesn't!

Alfie already in the family, not keen on Morgan - love Isaac and Lucas - again dp doesnt!

Edward Wellard - seriously! I love Edward but not with the surname. I love William - but again, William Wellard???

Love Thomas, but hate Tom and Tommy

Like James but as a middle name more.

OP posts:
boogeek · 27/02/2009 14:31

Could you swap it around so he could be Joseph Harry?

Leo9 · 27/02/2009 14:32

good point - if you liked joseph enough for a middle name why not call him Joseph? Nice name!

Wolfblass · 27/02/2009 14:32

Dp suggested Joel actually earlier.

Theo i love, he hates and i like Jacob but not Jake and he doesn't like it either..

OP posts:
MamaG · 27/02/2009 14:33

Yes how often will you see Harry? IF not too often, have it anyway

conniedescending · 27/02/2009 14:33

What about Joseph Harry?

or Henry?

Wolfblass · 27/02/2009 14:33

Again i'm not keen on the shortened version - Joseph would become Joe or Joey... not my cup of tea!

OP posts:
Wolfblass · 27/02/2009 14:35

I suppose we wouldn't see him too often - but other family members will and with them being very close in age (bump is ude in 2 weeks) that's another reason i'm not sure about having the same name..

Last time i was pg we had Aarron for a boy - her baby came first was a boy and she named him exactly that!

This time though she had no idea - it's just so strange!

Ending in a Y names; Freddy/Zachary/Gregory/Stanley/Barnaby/Teddy/Malachy

With the same feel as Harry:
Charlie or Richie, Stanley, Arthur

I don't think you should use Harry too though. That may not seem odd to YOU but it would mean one grandparent had a grandson and a great grandson called Harry (is that right?) that'd be odd for them.

Other classic names I like are Marcus, Dominic, Peter. Not quite so old man though.

I also like Saul, Guy, Gus, Leo. I like Robbie which is underused these days and could be the brother of a Harry.

hth

bytheLiffey · 27/02/2009 14:39

Wolf, what about Liam Wellard? That is short for William. I like Billy Wellard! Billy and Harry both have that 'could be 2 or 92' feel about them.

bytheLiffey · 27/02/2009 14:41

Last post... What about leo instead of Theo. Less urban chic and more classic. I prefer Leo. I can see husbands going for Leo over Theo!

Wolfblass · 27/02/2009 14:44

I love Billy - dp hates it!

Liam already in the family!

I love Dominic too and Sebastien but dp really hates them!

I cannot get him to come up with any names tbh that he 'likes'.

Last time i was pg he was adamant a boy would be Gabriel i hated it then, love it now (although most of the family don't) but he says i kicked up such a fuss last time he will not have it

Thanks so much for all these names, we've scoured my huge name book, but both get bored and lose inspiration!

OP posts:
Leo9 · 27/02/2009 14:58

obviously I like Leo too

Leo Wellard I think would be lovely. Wellard is not a particularly attractive name if you'll forgive me for saying so, and I think a classic, 'softer' name like Leo would be lovely with it.

Same with Gabriel - lovely. Tell him not to be so silly - if he loved it before he will again. And you're allowed to change your mind!

bytheLiffey · 27/02/2009 14:58

That's men for ya. My x could only give me one name, James and Nathan.

Name books are too dry. You need people to give you their opinions to bring the names to life a bit.

What about Charlie, Richie or Robbie? They are all as classic as Harry but informal. Charlie quite popular but Richie or Robbie would make a nice change, without being at all wtf?

bytheLiffey · 27/02/2009 14:59

You must have been so annoyed when they made that dog one of the longest serving cast members on Eastenders! I think it's finally been written out now (or died perhaps)

Wolfblass · 27/02/2009 15:02

I know Leo and we perfectly understand what you mean!

Surprisingly none of the children in the family have ever recived any taunts about the name! Dp is one of 6, adn has a fair few neices and nephews with this surname. It's adult life it hits you hard (we are not yet married and tend to use my surname when booking things - so not as to gt laughed at, people have refused us taxi's and even restaurant bookings in the past!)

bytheliffey - yes he died!

Dp always says Wellard - yes as in the dog (it makes me cringe)

It's either that or people revert to the WellHard version (which helps that dp is of rugby esque stature making it quite fitting - pmsl)

Runout of ideas

Nephew is Alexander (grr as i love the name) and i love Joseph but not Joe or Joey and dp will not let me have it!

May help if i can put down names already in family:

Simon, Matthew, Andrew, Kevin (i wouldn't choose that anyway), Liam, Aaron, Marshall.

Ooh bytheliffey - i love Saul - we had that on shorlist last time!

Ross
Rory
Tim
Jake

Gregory
