I love the name Atticus and would like to use it if we have a boy in May. However, I'd feel better knowing there are a few out there - anyone know any children named Atticus?

You a "To Kill a Mockingbird" fan?

Don't know an Atticus, although know a few kids with very unusual names, which I've never seen again.

thequietone · 15/02/2009 21:52

yes I know one born very recently.

Boco · 15/02/2009 21:52

Yes, I know one. He's about 7 I think.

Hulababy · 15/02/2009 21:53

No, never met one before.

Sidge · 15/02/2009 21:58

Yes, there is an Atticus in DD2s reception class.

Momino · 15/02/2009 21:59

I love to kill a mockingbird, both book and film. incidentally, our top girl name choice is Harper.

I'm american and think Atticus would be more accepted in the US than in the UK where people have just raised their eyebrows at me when I've mentioned the name. Guess if we have an atticus, maybe we should move back there .

There are a few celebrity baby Atticus'.

Loved the name, and wanted to call the pfb it.
Dh wasn't as keen. There's a street clothing line called Atticus also.

I'm pretty sure it will take off as a name over the next 10 years though, so get in early!

FlorenceDaphne · 15/02/2009 22:00

I don't have a DS, but if I did, he would be named Atticus, because the character in the novel is such a shining example of how to live your life. Good choice. Go for it!

Momino · 15/02/2009 22:01

wow, that's 3 in a couple of minutes. so not too horribly unusual (?).

I know two!(both young children, no adults).

Poledra · 15/02/2009 22:04

I know one (boy, rather than man).

walkingprimrose · 15/02/2009 23:19

Yes, I know of a baby boy Atticus - probably about 18 months old now. I quite like it.

Boobz · 16/02/2009 12:29

I know an Atticus, born in South London in November. Great name, IMHO.

jennylindinha · 16/02/2009 12:35

Love the name. I don't know an Atticus, but I do know a Scout!

WinkyWinkola · 16/02/2009 12:36

I love the name. I'm going to use it if I ever have another baby boy.

herbaceous · 16/02/2009 16:13

I'm having a baby boy, and I might steal it from you! If he'd been a girl, I would have called her Harper, after Harper Lee, so Atticus is perfect.

Let's keep it just the two of us, though. We don't want it to become too popular, after all...

Oovavu · 16/02/2009 16:27

as long as you don't come on AIBU in a few years' time with "AIBU to get really pee'd off with ds having to answer comments about TKAM and Gregory Peck every time he goes into a new environment"

Momino · 16/02/2009 17:17

herbaceous, steal away. I don't mind a handful of Atticus' out there at least I'm sure there won't be a glut.

In any case, i feel like this babe's a girl (have 2 already). Harper is our 1st choice for a girl but was also in the list for the last two births yet we didn't use. I guess we'll see.

PMSL!@Atticus. I wouldn't.

I heard a woman call her child rather loudly across a busy museum today. 'Titus! Titus!'. The sniggers were audible.

WinkyWinkola · 16/02/2009 19:28

I think Atticus is a noble name. It's very fine. It's mine! And whoever else wants it.

PollyGarter · 16/02/2009 20:36

I think shortening it to 'Atty' could be real nice... nb. in museums, call out 'Atty'

SoupDragon · 16/02/2009 20:37

My cat is called Atticus.

IroningBored · 16/02/2009 22:43

There's a column in the Sunday Times by Giles Hattersley called Atticus
