we are currently expecting dd2 and have always loved the name Lauren (dd1 was nearly called this), we thought we would call dd2 Lauren but have just found out there is a Lauren in Eastenders whose sister is called Abbie (dd1's name!)
Neither of us ever watch Eastenders and still really like the name, but I really dont want everyone thinking we have named our dd's after Eastenders characters!!

Would you still use Lauren? can you suggest anything else? We do like Freya but not as much

Personally, I probably would not, but then I watch EastEnders

Also, I have a Freya so I guess your second choice name would be good for me in the same situation
And, funnily enough, I have a cat called Abbey!
We must like the same names!

daisy5 · 28/01/2009 13:04

The characters change quite quickly on these programs. They may not even be around in 6 months time.

Fimbo · 28/01/2009 13:58

Lauren has left/is leaving the show. She will soon be a distant memory and knowing EE probably brought back in about 20 years time.

Go for it!

belgo · 28/01/2009 14:00

don't worry about it. Abbie and Lauren are lovely names.

FAQtothefuture · 28/01/2009 14:01

Well I don't watch EE so wouldn't associate it at all, Lauren is a lovely name

lastboxoftampons · 28/01/2009 16:26

I wouldn't worry about it. No one's going to pick up on it - they're not distinctly soap opera names anyway, they're normal everyday ones!

helsbels4 · 28/01/2009 16:29

Lauren and Abbie are lovely names, so I'd go for it if I were you. If they were called Ronnie and Roxy it might be a different matter

compo · 28/01/2009 16:39

lol, I thought you were going to say Ronnie and Roxy or Phil and Grant

fryalot · 28/01/2009 16:42

If you like the name, then have it. EE characters will change anyway and it would be a shame to lose the name you like when the character may be ditched a week after you have given birth.

I managed to (unintentionally) call my two littlies after musicals, and hardly anybody comments on it

daisy5 · 28/01/2009 16:53

Would that be Oliver & Annie squonk - that would never occur to me either.

fryalot · 28/01/2009 16:54

yes.

When people do comment, I tell them dd1's middle name is Oklahoma. they look at me like this and I can see they're trying to figure out whether I'm serious or not...

llynnnn · 28/01/2009 17:54

thanks for all your replies, just what i wanted to hear too!!
i wouldnt go as far as phil and grant though!!

Squonk - i wouldnt have noticed the musicals link either

Pinkbump3 · 29/01/2009 20:06

i think with any names there will always be someone who can link it to something. my dd is morgan and there is always some twat that will ask if its after the drink i think not.

CarryOnUpTheLiffey · 04/02/2009 17:23

Don't worry. There is a connection between my children's names, I was not aware of it until after the second was named. It's not a big deal and only a few people have ever picked up on it (well, picked up on it and told me !)

Fwiw, I like Freya more than Lauren, but I think Laurel is nicer than Lauren and would get around the temporary problem anyway.

TooMuchMakkaPakka · 08/02/2009 01:42

i know someone whose dds are claudia and saskia apparently they were sisters on eastenders too (and one was murderered) but i don't think she hears about it very much at all now. it is an old storyline and yours will be too very soon (not a big soap opera fan).

naughtalessnickerless · 08/02/2009 02:01

I managed to give my two names which when shortened sound like my sisters name.
As in Caz, Gaz and Shaz. (but obviously not those names .. eek!)
She (lets call her 'Shaz' ) was when I named dd 'Caz' but was soo, not impressed when we named ds 'Gaz'

beanieb · 08/02/2009 02:13

Squonk, is it Annie and Oliver ?

beanieb · 08/02/2009 02:14

Doh, someone else asked.

fryalot · 08/02/2009 17:59

When we're out, I tend to shorten both the names so people don't hear me calling Annie and Oliver in the same breath!

They may ALL mention it then

soon2befamilyof4 · 08/02/2009 19:54

I would go for it. They are not main characters particually. Like somebody said it would be different if it were "phil and grant" or something like that.

spongebrainbigpants · 08/02/2009 20:03

I wouldn't worry - thought I was going to open the thread and find your kids were called Courtney and Whitney!

Lauren and Abbie are lovely names.

soon2befamilyof4 · 08/02/2009 20:49

Courntney? Whats wrong with Courtney? There isn't a courtney in eastenders either is there?

ScottishMummy · 08/02/2009 20:53

britney mitchell was grant and tiffany's daughter

ScottishMummy · 08/02/2009 20:55

i of course meant courtney mitchell

soon2befamilyof4 · 08/02/2009 21:04

Oh ok. I quite like courtney to be honest, and she has hardly been in eastenders. I watch it everyday and didn't think of it till you said Grants daughter. And not related to Whitney which is what confused me!
