It's not spelt Emne it's spelt Emme

I haven't investigated it's origins, I was reading an article on J-Lo and one of her twins are called it. I thought it was quite pretty...off to look in baby name book...

I think I would give Emmeline as a full name (because I love that ) and then use Emme as a nn.

Ah thanks Ladidadi - just found out it is short for Emmeline which is very pretty too...

sorry, typo - I know its Emme. Still think its odd. Emmy is better, but only as a nickname.

I live in Budapest and a teaching assistant at DS's school is called Esme (Ez-may) which is similar. Like both of them in fact. Emme is pretty but I wonder if it is a bit wishy-washy.

Busa - see Esme (Ez-may) is a classic example of a name I hate. I traditionally pronounced it is Ez-mee which is beautiful but Ez-may just sounds like someone trying to be exotic and failing (IMO)

Actually - now I think of it, it wasn't Esme. It was Emse (I think) - pronounced Em-eh-shay = I like the pronounciation but appreciate it may not work in UK!

Not sure it is phonetic, is it? More common in English not to separate the 'm's. I would probably have gone for Em as a first bash at pronunciation.
