At the last count I've started 963 threads about being useless not very good at finding a name for our DD.

Harriet is about as close as we've got to agreeing on a name. Suzanne is the middle name regardless.

Opinions please on the name - and please don't just say YES to shut me up and get me off the forum

Lovely names. Harriet is very pretty, but suits an adult as well.

Hi Mbennett, WIll your husband not just give in and let you have your way?!

FWIW I think Suzy or Susie are both gorgeous nns for Suzanne. Suzanne Violet?? No?

Well, if you agree on Harriet finally that is a relief. You only need to agree on one name. jmo, but Violet is prettier than Harriet, so it's surprising that an Emily/Ella fan prefers Harriet to Violet!

PS, when you see the title of the thread "Harriet Suzanne" does it look right? do you read it and feel 'that's our daughter's name up there on the internet'....

My name's Harriet, and I wouldn't recommend it. A lot of people find it difficult to remember, class it as 'unusual / old-fashioned name begining with H', and so I'm used to being addressed by people as Hester, Hilary, Henrietta... I'm Hattie for short, and again, people frequently don't realise that one's short for the other and get confused. Names beginning with H also don't translate well into other languages - in French it's Arriet, which isn't too bad, but in Russian you're Garriet, which is just plain unpleasant (especially if you happen to study Russian and move to Russia ).
However, my mum still loves it, 35 years after she chose it... and the alternative was Rainbow, so I suppose it could have been worse!
But, to be honest, it doesn't really matter, does it? You have to put up with the name you're given, and the people around you come to accept your name as being your name, no matter how odd it is. And whatever name you give your daughter, you'll love her and you'll love it because you'll think of her every time you say it. So call her Harriet if you can agree on it, and don't worry about whether she'll thank you for it in 30 years time!
