Opinions please? Would you assume boy or girl? Just one of the names I have floating about that i'm not too sure on..

Rindercella · 30/12/2008 12:07

Would assume a boy. Sorry, don't like it at all.

MrsMattie · 30/12/2008 12:08

Always thought it was a boy's name. I actually went to school with two boys called Haydenback in the '80s.

The girl in 'Heroes' is called Hayden, though, so may be thought of as a girl's name in the US?

SheWillBeLoved · 30/12/2008 12:11

Argh MrsMattie, I actually typed "please, no references to the Heroes girl" in my first post and then deleted it

I know it's not everyones cup of tea.. but i'm really not into the 'old person' style names that seem to be all the rage at the moment., so i'm just trying to find a name that's different but not old.

Absolutely love it. You should totally go with it. I love it for a girl or a boy. I think people would generally assume boy, but that's not really a problem if you like it for a girl.

It's more difficult the other way round. Obviously, if you were to call a boy Sally, it doesn't work.

I would call a boy or girl Hayden- it's on my short list.

love it love* it love it
!

smartiejakeonachristmascake · 30/12/2008 12:21

One of the most loathesome nasty boy bullies I have ever come across is called Hayden.(Regularly has my DD in tears) So rather biased against this one!

SheWillBeLoved · 30/12/2008 12:22

Yay mumofbaby

It's on my boys names list, I did consider calling a girl it.. but I think then too many people would link her to Heroes, expect her to be blonde, and have the ability to grow new feet

OP posts:
NorthernLurker · 30/12/2008 12:25

for a boy I think I would expect to spell it 'Haydn'

MumofBaby · 30/12/2008 12:25

SheWillBeLoved- it's a possibility, but in all honesty, I don't think Heroes will be around that much longer- I think it might be a fad. So when it's forgotten, it won't be an issue to the child.

But then I do love it for a boy.

Are you getting that I LOVE IT?

AuntieMaggie · 30/12/2008 12:26

love it :O

SheWillBeLoved · 30/12/2008 12:29

Mumofbaby - I suppose so. Tbh the Heroes thing wouldn't stop me from using that name - i'm just one of those people who links names to anything I think of when I hear it and then assume people will always do the same and think of what I think of

And you love it...? Not quite getting that from your posts in all honesty.

OP posts:
MrsMattie · 30/12/2008 12:36

The Heroes thing shouldn't put you off. The Cheerleader is gorgeous and kicks arse . plus who will remember it when she is grown up? if you were thinking about Sylar I might advise differently

lunamoon2 · 30/12/2008 12:37

I think boy but may be both because of Heros.
Always thought it was Aiden tbh until I saw Hayden Christinsen in something.

I do like it but would never pick a name for my ds that could be construed as anything otherthan masculine, just my opinion.

mumof2andabit · 30/12/2008 13:26

I automatically think boy only because the first time I came across it was on a message board and someone had chosen it as their sons name. Sorry that was a bit long and boring!

Do like it for a girl tho as well as I'm not keen on the ethel type names around now.

angelstar · 30/12/2008 14:35

I always think its a boys name and did consider it once for one of my children but where we live people drop their h's and he would always have been called (h)ayden which I don't like.

thisisyesterday · 30/12/2008 14:40

i would assume boy.
i really don't like it, but that is quite irrational lol
i don't like aiden either, i have no idea why.. just don't like how they sound.

Nancy66 · 30/12/2008 15:01

It's a boy's name - not a particularly nice one in my opinion but especially not a good choice for a girl. it's quite hard sounding and not very feminine.

I understand that you don't like the old lady type names but I'm not keen on this.

ketal · 30/12/2008 16:12

I used to really like this name (It was a potential on my list 6 years ago). Knew a couple of very nice upper middle class Haydns at Uni and so the name always had that nice sort of tone for me... But with the rise of Jaydens and Braydons and so on... it doesn't seem to have the same feel to it. To me, it now seems a bit more, well naff really. Sorry, but I probably wouldn't use it now. HTH

ketal · 30/12/2008 16:13

Also, deffo a boy's name. Wouldn't use it on a girl. I like pretty names for girls and am not keen on masculine names, which I consider this name to be.

whoingodsnameami · 30/12/2008 16:15

I thinks its bloody lovely, but it is my ds name though spelled differently.

janeite · 30/12/2008 16:25

I'd have thought it was a boys' name and don't like it.
As a girls' name, I like it even less, sorry. And I agree about the Jayden, Braydon thing.

Sesi · 30/12/2008 16:36

I like it for a boy, really don't like it for a girl.

I prefer it spelt Haydn. That spelling also distances it from the Jayden/Brayden association which does slightly mar the name now.

SheWillBeLoved · 30/12/2008 16:38

I don't think i'd call a girl it, it is quite a masculine name as others have mentioned. I don't know if I like the spelling Haydn though.. it looks as though something is missing or is spelt wrong to me?

OP posts:
Wolfblass · 30/12/2008 18:11

Haven't heard it in a while and to be honest i am loving it!

I would to assume boy - never known a girl called HAYDEN or with that name! lol

Blatantly · 31/12/2008 12:04

I love it too, as my ds is called Haydn. However, most people spell it as Hayden!

SheWillBeLoved · 31/12/2008 12:22

I'm just not sure on the Haydn spelling.. it really looks to me like it has been misspelt! I think Hadyn could work.. but Haydn i'm not too keen on?

I think I just like the look of 'Hayden', i'm not worried about it being similar to Jayden or Kayden.. that didn't even cross my mind until mentioned on here! I'm not going to not use a name I like just because it's similar in spelling to something that someone else has called their child before I had the chance to have one

I think the harder we try to have a name that's 'different'.. the more common it somehow becomes? People will latch onto it because it's considered to be unique but don't realize that it then won't be for long.. hmph, my little rant for the morning done
