What are the 'alternative' full names for Ed?

Apart from Edwin and Edmund? Edward is a possibility but we don't love it. I really like Theodore but DH can't say 'th' he says 'ff' so thats a no go. Do you reckon you could just name him Ed, or does he need a formal name.

Edric

Eddison

If your DH can't say "th", what about Fyodor, like Dostoyevsky? I think that would be way cool.

CandyQueen · 17/12/2008 09:56

How about Edouard as an alternative spelling ... I know a great bloke who spells it that way!

suwoodolf · 17/12/2008 09:57

I'm liking Eddison......

thaddeus pronounced 'tad-ey-ous'. I love this name. Could be sortened to Ed, Ted, Teddy etc.

moopymoo · 17/12/2008 10:00

My ds1 is Edward and it is the best boys name Ever. He gets Eddie at school and I call him Bear though not infront of his friends.

secondhome · 17/12/2008 10:01

Theodore

suwoodolf · 17/12/2008 10:04

Hmm more choices to think about- lots more than I had thought of.

I know an Ed - and he is just Ed not shortened from anything

suwoodolf · 17/12/2008 10:29

DH doesn't like Eddison. I think it might be just Ed.... we have a ridiculously long time to think about it though .

We have a Theo and my DH has a bit of a problem with saying TH, well he is a bit lazy I think as if anyone asks what DS is called he can say it properly but usually for anything else he's a bit like your DH and says ff instead! It nearly put me off choosing the name but he said he could say it properly so we went with it

suwoodolf · 17/12/2008 11:33

I have considered asking him to pronounce it properly as he can say it when pushed. He even says ff in professional situations so he isn't that bothered about it- I on the other hand am .

Nedward

suwoodolf · 17/12/2008 11:43

Yeah, great idea kif, I love Nedward.

I am a fan of giving kids the option of the 'formal' name so I would go for Edward, esp. as that gets round pronounciation issues. You can call him Ed all the time. Edward's growing on me now in fact...

suwoodolf · 17/12/2008 12:43

But what about 'officialdom'? If his name on his birth cert is Edward, won't school and the doctors etc call him that?

bluebump · 17/12/2008 13:24

I had a friend who when I met him introduced himself as Ed, I once rang his house and asked for "Ed" and his mum said, "Yes, i'll get Edward for you" I was very as she said it in a really mean way!

CountessDracula · 17/12/2008 13:26

Just call him Ed
Why do you need a longer name?

bronze · 17/12/2008 13:32

www.thinkbabynames.com/starting/0/Ed

stick in Ed and it gives you all the options. I like the idea of something ending with an Ed sound

kif · 17/12/2008 13:33

Ed short for Eddd ?

bronze · 17/12/2008 13:48

Is that pronounce Ed-d (Eddy)?

HarktheheraldAnglepoise · 17/12/2008 13:53

Ha - I was going to suggest Edbert, which is what my SIL calls my DB (actual name Edward). I think it's sweet but made up but that website thinks it's real. Edward is a great name btw.

suwoodolf · 17/12/2008 13:59

I did say I didn't neccessarily want to give him a longer name, but wondered if I should.
