I'm expecting a baby girl due in jan and one of the names we love is Addison, but dp thinks it might be too unusual. What do you think?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
mrsout · 06/12/2008 15:37

Will be shortened to Addi.
I like it, but also sounds like a boys name?

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 06/12/2008 15:37

No.

ilovetochatupsanta · 06/12/2008 15:38

sounds like addition, sorry!

ToThrottleaRedRobin · 06/12/2008 15:39

Heard it before and dont like it, sorry.

BlackEyedDogstar · 06/12/2008 15:40

sounds somehow...Corporate? No.

artichokes · 06/12/2008 15:41

Its very American.
In the UK its a surname really.
Its not my cup of tea, sorry.

thisisyesterday · 06/12/2008 15:43

i've only heard it as a boys' name before, so it does sound boyish to me. doesn't mean you shouldn't use it though!

persoanlly not to my choice. but that doesn't matter does it?

i love unusual names, so if you love it then go for it

SatsumaMoon · 06/12/2008 15:45

Could you use Madison which is less unusual? Agree Addison sounds like a corporate name... sorry!

pagwatch · 06/12/2008 15:45

it sound like you are a big fan of greys anatomy - and probably american

LynetteScavo · 06/12/2008 15:48

It sounds like a boys name to me.

I live near Addison Road, which isn't a very nice road, which would put me off.

If you love it go for it - stuff what we think!

sweetkitty · 06/12/2008 15:52

I know a 14yo boy called Addison NN Addi

christywhisty · 06/12/2008 16:12

It's also the name of a disease which is what I immediately thought of when I saw the post.

Heated · 06/12/2008 16:19

Jane Austen died of Addison's disease.

MrsMattie · 06/12/2008 16:20

Really don't like it. A hard, cold, 'surname-ey' name, and sounds very boy-ish.

thisisyesterday · 06/12/2008 16:21

well yueah, but then there are things like William's sydrome and Edward's too, and they're both lovely, much used names!
so wouldn't necessarily let that put me off

missmama · 06/12/2008 17:01

The only Addison I know is a boy - Sorry

christywhisty · 06/12/2008 17:08

yes but William and Edward are common names with lots of other associations. Only ever heard of Addison in association with the disease or very occassionally a surname.

belgo · 06/12/2008 17:25

It reminds me of the disease. Listen to your dh!

sellorrenovate · 06/12/2008 17:30

No, reminds me of www.addisonlee.com/

BabyTalk13 · 07/12/2008 01:42

Its ok, I wouldnt use it but if you like it go for it!
I know a Maddison, which I think is better (and lovely) shortened to Maddie or Madds

mickeylou · 07/12/2008 08:51

I dont dislike it but it did immediately bring charachter in "greys anatomy" to mind.

MarmadukeScarlet · 07/12/2008 09:02

I'm with renovate... TAXI!

loobylu3 · 07/12/2008 09:15

It reminds me of Addison's disease too but if you really like it, I think it sounds better on a boy as it isn't v feminine.

littleboyblue · 07/12/2008 09:15

I love it. It was top of our list for a girl, but expecting a boy.

ilovegreenbeans · 07/12/2008 14:39

I know a few in Canada but it's not my cup of tea. I would like it much more if it was a boy's name!
Although, I guess it's not unlike Alison or Madison.
