I'm expecting a baby girl due in jan and one of the names we love is Addison, but dp thinks it might be too unusual. What do you think?

I don't like it. I was expecting you to be suggesting it as a boys' name, which I also don't like, but I like it even less as a girls' name.

Anna8888 · 07/12/2008 14:42

I think of Addison's disease

DoubleBluff · 07/12/2008 14:47

dreadful name.
Cold
HArd

georgiemum · 07/12/2008 14:49

reminds me of the Addison Lee ads that used to be on late night radio

A - di - addi - son LEE

TheFallenMadonna · 07/12/2008 14:53

I would definitely assume you were influenced by Grey's Anatomy.

Caz10 · 07/12/2008 14:54

I liked it but DH vetoed it because of Grey's Anatomy!

TheNewsMongersGeansaiNollag · 07/12/2008 15:10

I think of the disease. It's bonkers that there's a grown up female Addison on Grey's Anatomy.

First Madison was very popular in USA, and then when that got a bit tired, people started choosing Addison 'to be different' . Oldest Madisons are probably about 23, oldest Addisons are probaby about 13.

StephanieByng · 07/12/2008 15:19

It makes me think of the bins and mops and things they sell in Asda, those are Addison.

Even if it WAS a name, it wouldn't be a girl's one.

TheNewsMongersGeansaiNollag · 07/12/2008 15:27

It was somebody's name! The surname of the person who first identified the disease now called Addison's disease!

StephanieByng · 07/12/2008 15:28

And obviously the surname of Mr or Mrs Addison who had a super business idea involving plastic items for the 'ome

TheNewsMongersGeansaiNollag · 07/12/2008 15:33

oh yeah!!! if you're going to name your child after a bin or a mop, I'd go with Lucy!!

sharkyandgeorge · 07/12/2008 15:35

Don't like it at all, and definitely not for a girl.

pania · 07/12/2008 15:37

Would immediately think of Addison's disease.

I really think the surname as first name thing is going to date (is already dating) fast.

piscesmoon · 07/12/2008 15:39

Addison's disease - where the adrenal glands aren't working properly-I certainly wouldn't want to give the name to my baby!

TheNewsMongersGeansaiNollag · 07/12/2008 15:41

Rubella is gorgeous. Now as a name, that one does tempt me.

StephanieByng · 07/12/2008 15:47

Rubella - a sister and playmate for Chlamidia

dontcallmehon · 07/12/2008 20:34

guess it's not a popular choice, then.

I like it ..better then all the hollys and lilys and poppys around at the minute .....

TheNewsMongersGeansaiNollag · 07/12/2008 20:39

I knew Jane Austen died young but I didn't know she died of Addison's disease. Well there you go. I've learnt something tinkering about on mn today.

PlonkerTeatowelOnTheirHeads · 07/12/2008 20:41

I though this was a boys name? ...either way, I don't really like it. Sorry.

jellybeans · 07/12/2008 22:31

I hate it, sorry.

Quattrocento · 07/12/2008 22:32

Names can be very labelling, can't they?

elsiepiddock · 07/12/2008 22:37

Noooo!!

It's an illness

cece · 07/12/2008 22:38

Sounded medical to me and now I know why! LOL I would say a big NO to Addison.

expatinscotland · 07/12/2008 22:40
