Aurelia - would you pronounce it "Au-REH-lia" or "Au-REE-lia" ?

Other options we're (well, I'm) considering: Matilda - getting too popular now?, Kerenza, Milena and Cassia, amongst others.

Is Oleda too odd?

ramonaquimby · 18/11/2008 22:40

I quite like Oleda - a new one for me

HeinzSight · 18/11/2008 22:40

The first one

RomanCandleQueen · 18/11/2008 22:42

Au-reh-lia

And I'd have Carenza instead of Kerenza. And I prefer Kasia to Cassia.

ramonaquimby · 18/11/2008 22:43

isn't Kerenza a Cornish name?

thumbwitch · 18/11/2008 22:45

aureelia.
good old-fashioned name.
I know a Kerena, Kerenza is ok.
Oleda sounds like hair products.

or ree lia is how I'd pronounce it. Not keen, tbh.
Matilda only good un on your list, imo. But I am boring!

cyteen · 19/11/2008 08:43

Sorry, I forgot to say before, I really like Aurelia. Kerenza and Milena are nice too but I would probably choose Cassandra over Cassia.

CoolYourJets · 19/11/2008 08:48

Miranda maybe. Au reh lee a.

Milena - no sounds made up.

Cassia - like it.

Kerenza - see Milena

PerkinWarbeck · 19/11/2008 09:09

the aurelia I know is an aureeelia.

cyteen · 19/11/2008 09:12

I knew a very stylish Milena. Also a Mileni, which does sound made up (she was Brazilian).

FourArms · 19/11/2008 09:17

I think that the one we know is pronounced or-ray-lee-ah

I knew a Kerenza, and there was one on Time Team wasn't there?

bikerunski · 19/11/2008 09:27

My only experience of an Aurelia is from "Love Actually (the girl Colin Firth dashes across Europe on Christmas Eve to propose to). She is pronounced Or-ray-lia. Lovely name.

Oleda - hmmm. But do like Oleeta (Sorry, bringing in a totally new name here).

Cassia - sounds like a spice!
Kerenza - Nice, wasn't this on the Cornish names thread recently?
Milena - Hmmmm.

Matila - LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!! DH wouldn't let me have it, but then DC is a boy!
(Also probably the name on your list likely to generate the least amount of "Sorry, what was that? How do you spell it?" type comments in later life. Depends if this is important to you. Take it from me, with an unusual name, I would rather have a well known name than spend half my life spelling it out).

bythepowerofgreyskull · 19/11/2008 09:29

or ray lia

VictorianSqualor · 19/11/2008 13:50

Or-ree-lee-ya.
It's the name of my WAR character, lol.

Grammaticus · 19/11/2008 13:56

Or-Ray-lee-a, like lots of others. Think it's a bit pretentious though, sorry!

foxytocin · 19/11/2008 14:00

ow-REH-lee-ya

if speaking it in spanish.

RachieB · 19/11/2008 21:07

Or-ray-lia for me too

not keen on any of them ,sorry

LuLuBai · 20/11/2008 13:47

Orr-RAY-lee-a. I really like it.

Oleda sounds like Weleda (beauty products) to me.

Milena is pretty but makes me think of the ubiquitous Mylene Klass.

Cassia sounds made up - prefer Cassandra or Kasia (pronounced Kasha).
