Names that are destined to become very popular

I am racking my brains for a name for DD3. So far I have had Claudia, Camille, Esme, Francesca and Louisa.

We cannot make our minds up totally and out of the above names I think Claudia, Esme and Louisa are going to become popular over the next few years and want to avoid anything that will become the next "Grace" - DD1 is Grace and I love it but sick to the back teeth of hearing it every 5 minutes.

Anyone have any names which are destined to become the next Top 5 for the 2010's thus I should avoid!

Ha ha I'm pg with DD2 and she was going to be Ava Lucy!! Possibly not now

liath · 18/11/2008 21:18

I thought I'd been very original with Eloise but she is one of three at her nursery . We're in Scotland. I really wanted Elise but dh vetoed that.

If I had another girl I fancy Dulcie after my great-great Aunt. Smashing name. Dh vetoing further babies though so I can see a baby substitute Norfolk terrier called Dulcie in the offing .

Cannot believe Edith may come back. My friend in her mid forties was called this, unheard of for a girl born in the sixties, and absolutley hated it with a vengence. She shortened it to Edie.

LynetteScavo · 18/11/2008 21:31

Theren is an Edith in DS2's class.

I'm waiting for Elsie to come back. _am I the only person who likes it?

There's a girl that works in a shop near me and her name is

Edna.

Poor girl. Hopefully that't not due for a revival??

I just had to add after the Gloria comment that i have noted a few of the lo's names at nursery.
My dd plays with a Veronica, Gloria and Agnes!!!
She has an old fashioned name too though so it is sweet calling after them all.
All the rest are your usual Isabel, Eleanor, Freya, Esme, etc - nothing too startling!

pramspotter · 20/11/2008 16:37

Gloria is kind of all right. Its probably one of those names I would like to use but never will.

lolianja · 22/11/2008 13:20

Grace, Charlotte, Ella, Olivia, Isabella, Scarlett. You literally can't walk 20 yards down a high street down here without hearing a small child having one of these names squawked after them. They're everywhere.

Cupofteaplease · 22/11/2008 21:35

I have an Evie Violet and a Mabel-Daisy Ivy. I can't believe Evie is now the 15th most popular girl's name- how depressing!! I hope Mabel doesn't catch on. I bet it will now I've said that!

I really didn't want my dc to share their name with anyone in their class. Sadly, Evie's best friend is called Evie and they are inseperable, so they are known as Big Evie and Little Evie, or "the Evies"... what can you do?!

poshwellies · 22/11/2008 21:40

I had a 'Scarlett' nearly 14 yrs ago and no one around here had a daughter with the same name now the name has become hugely popular.

shopaholicDIVA · 22/11/2008 21:48

surprise · 22/11/2008 22:23

I think there are some names around that are always around, but never become hugely over-used. Things like Rachel, Ruth, Anna, Sarah, Heather, Rowan - all of these are good solid names, but not too popular.

TheNewsMongrel · 22/11/2008 22:38

It seems like everybody is paranoid that there own dd's name will rise up sharply.

But unless it rises up to the top thirty i don't think it will seem popular.

Do names at say, number 45 seem ubiquitous to you? I've no idea what the name at number 45 is!

Some body said Lydia was rising and 6 yrs ago, I remember looking at Lydia on the stats and noticing that it had risen a bit, fallen a bit, and actually seemed pretty level, it had averaged at about 68 for 5 yrs.

Most names were clearly either rising or falling. So, I don't think Lydia EVER be a Olivia. It doesn't feel new enough. It's been on the peripheral for too long now to make a dramatic ruby/freya style march to the top ten (i love both those names btw).

TheNewsMongrel · 22/11/2008 22:40

I can't believe people are still calling their children Lucy. I don't dislike it, but I went to school with Lucys. It's like Claire/Jenny/Sarah to me. It is a nice name, but I don't think that one even popped into my head when I was pg.

thatsnotmymonster · 22/11/2008 22:49

Babies I know born in the last 2 years have been

Sophie
Sophia
Cara
Katy (x2)
Lucy
Isabella
Amelie
Ava
Evie
Elsie
Ellie
Hannah
Olivia
Anya

Ones I know that I think are not so popular are

Robyn (my dd2)
Skye (my niece)
Tana
Georgia
Marin
Merrin
Lotta

Portia (which I love but DH would not have)

Someone mentioned it earlier

thatsnotmymonster · 22/11/2008 22:53

I live in Scotland btw.

Oh also know a Lydia and Iona born this year.

DD1 is a Chloe which I know is popular but we hardly ever come across any other Chloes!

I'm a Sophie and I only knew one other growing up but it's really in vogue at the moment!

LoremIpsum · 23/11/2008 05:29

I have a 7 year old Sophie, and she's the only one in her year, and one of only 2 at the school, but there do seem to be plenty coming up after her.

Names that have become genuinely unusual are those like:

Margaret
Pamela
Barbara
Mary
Helen
June
Janice
Jane
