Names that are destined to become very popular

I am racking my brains for a name for DD3. So far I have had Claudia, Camille, Esme, Francesca and Louisa.

We cannot make our minds up totally and out of the above names I think Claudia, Esme and Louisa are going to become popular over the next few years and want to avoid anything that will become the next "Grace" - DD1 is Grace and I love it but sick to the back teeth of hearing it every 5 minutes.

Anyone have any names which are destined to become the next Top 5 for the 2010's thus I should avoid!

camille was very high up on our short list for DD3
what about

Cecelia or Celia?
Beatrice
Penelope nn Nell?
Honor
Celementine

ones I think more popular include

Phoebe
Amelie/Amelia
Ellie
Sophie/Sophia
Chloe
Olivia

and there are tonnes of Caitlyn's here, all varieties of spelling

I think names go on something like an 80 year cycle. So the popular names now, are the ones that 10 years ago we only heard for old ladies, IYSWIM. So, to be original now, go for names that were popular say 30 years ago.
Someone mentioned Claire already - then there's always Sharon or Tracy...

Am I helping?

EachPeachPearMum · 16/11/2008 22:26

I am 30 weeks pg... am having a boy, but our girls shortlist was
Cecily Margot
Beatrix

I think Claudia, Camille and Louisa will remain unusual.
(there is a mer with a Louisa, but I don't know of any others)

Dottoressa · 16/11/2008 22:33

Over-popular where I live (or becoming so):
Claudia
Esme
Eloise
Camilla
Evie/Eavie
Lola
Lydia
Sophia
Tilly
Jessica
Olivia
Grace
Amelia

(More's the pity, as they're mostly nice names!)

If my DD's name ever becomes popular, I shall eat my woolly bobble-hat (though that's what my Gran said when she called one of her daughters Olivia 68 years ago!!)

Fimbo · 16/11/2008 22:37

Jasmine is another popular one round my way.

I like Ailsa, Louisa and Gillian, I think they are safe bets.

Fimbo · 16/11/2008 22:38

Oh and Freya is another popular name here

artichokes · 17/11/2008 08:43

I am really please I saw this thread. I am loving the name Camille (nickname Milly). Its the first inspiration DH and I have had for a while and we were getting desperate. We now have a shortlist of four .

ilovemyflipflops · 17/11/2008 08:56

I predict Imogen and Edith will become very popular

dontletbedbugsbite · 17/11/2008 09:01

everywhere -

ella/ellie
olivia
emily
ava
sophie
isobel/isabella
annabel

thirtysomething · 17/11/2008 09:01

Harriet is getting very popular as are Rose, May, Phoebe and Isabel.

I don't think Claudia will ever be so popular as it's a bit more unusual; Francesca is relatively popular already. All beautiful names on your list. I just love Camille. Wanted to call my DD that but DH wasn't in favour unfortunately.

Another name that's a classic but never over-used is Sophie/Sophia. Beatrice too.

brimfull · 17/11/2008 09:10

60-70's names will have to make a comeback

Karen
Donna
Susan
Diane
Pauline,Paulina
Joanne
Rachel
Amanda
Christine
Barbara
Michelle

Anna8888 · 17/11/2008 09:21

LOL there is a Donna (Indonesian) and a Joanne (French) in my DD's class at school. Very retro-chic

MrsBadger · 17/11/2008 09:27

Rachel is ace, was on our shortlist for dd

[gazes into crystal ball]
For the Olivia/Ella/Grace classes I think the soft feminine names will stay in the ascendant for a few years and will be followed by a backlash of either extreme old-lady names (Nancy, Edith, Agnes, Dorothy), 70s mainstream names (Christine, Alison, Jane, Susan) or US-inspired surnames-as-firstnames (Cameron, Stockard, Torrance)

so there

dizzydixies · 17/11/2008 09:27

well if its 60-70s names on the up we should be expecting a barage of

Caroline/Karolyns etc - we had tonnes at our school
Nicola
Laura/Lorna
Susan
Claire
Fiona we had 4 Fionas!
Vicki
Yvonne

Ivvvvyygootscaaared444 · 17/11/2008 09:30

Albert - bertie

Anna8888 · 17/11/2008 09:30

There's a little Caroline (French) in DD's class too

ilovemyflipflops · 17/11/2008 09:36

Vronsky - where do you live that you know of lots of Kitty's - I have one and don't know of a single other one!? (am in Scotland).
Am with you on Caroline - lovely and quite unusual.

SilentTerror · 17/11/2008 22:07

DD1 born 1989 had unusual name then, but became popular in 1990's,so we avoided anything popular with DDs 2 and 3.
I like
Jemima
Imogen
Charlote
Elizabeth
Annabelle
Elspeth
Beatrice
Katherine

Around here there are many
Ella/Ellie
Olivia
Grace
Lucy
Jessica
Megan
Ruby
Emily

alarkaspree · 17/11/2008 22:18

I think all girls' names ending in 'a' risk becoming very popular. Have you considered Frances? Lovelier than Francesca imo, and simpler, less elaborate versions of similar names seem to be less popular. Or Louise instead of Louisa.

ilovemyflipflops · 17/11/2008 22:23

I know a Kitty too so it's definitely on the up!

frazzledoldbag34 · 17/11/2008 22:29

Nobody else is allowed a Kitty.......it's MINE, all MINE!!!!!
(cackles threateningly)
only joking.

Actually, I like Jemima too.........

isanybodythere · 17/11/2008 22:34

Very popular where I live:

Sophie
Lucy
Grace
Olivia
Isabelle
Emily
Mia
Evie
