We are TTC at the moment and have a very definate name lined up for a boy, but can't decide on a girls name.
We couldn't really decide when naming our daughter and now I think we should've chosen differently.
What do think sounds better?

Amelia/ Emelia Rose (middle name)

Ophilia

Kathryn

Elizabeth

Or if you can think of any names along these lines, that are timeless and beutiful.

Ophelia is a beautiful name. There is a similar name , Opheera which I also like.

All nice choices - you don't like Princess juicy couture tiaaaami then? !!

lulumama · 16/11/2008 18:42

Amelia is lovely

Ophelia i think is the right spelling, i like it, but i think it has the potential to be poncetastic

kathryn & elizabeth are nice safe classic names, but i am not wild about either,. but they are totally non offensive

Amelia-common
Kathryn-dull
Elizabeth-dull

Ophelia-nice but please spell it properly.

lilibet · 16/11/2008 18:53

Kathryn is beautiful as long as you have an easy to spell surname, other wise the poor child will spend all it's life saying Kathryn with a K and a Y, and then spelling their surname as well.

Elizabeth is the most wonderful girl's name ever. It won't date, it has some gorgeous short versions and it is the classic timeless name. (Guess what my dd is called!)

Your other two are nice, but not in the same class, and I dont think they are timeless.

I'd be interested in what your boy's name is, I'm trying to think of a boy's name at the moment and am struggling and you have good taste!

Tortington · 16/11/2008 18:54

i like elizabeth, very nice indeed.

asdmumandteacher · 16/11/2008 18:56

Agree totally with Lulumama but Amelia and Amelie are becoming very popular

I love Elizabeth because of the Mr Darcy thing....

Ophelia = very catherine tate posh kiddies sketch - don't like it at all ( I don't like Olivia, Isobel, Imogen for same reason)

avaTsar · 16/11/2008 18:56

Especially like Kathryn (with a K) and Ophelia.

Very elegant and names for a grown woman and a little girl too. Lovely.

ForeverOptimistic · 16/11/2008 18:56

I love all of them except Ophelia it is just too poncey. I prefer Kathryn spelt Katharine but I'm not sure why it just seems to look nicer.

mummyloveslucy · 16/11/2008 18:58

I love Charlotte but that's my sisters name. I also love Bryony, but that's my other sisters name.

Moondog- I had no idea how to spell it.

My husband supprised me while watching Pans Laberinth last night, that he liked the name Ophelia.
Maybe something more subtelly posh.

My choice for a boy is Oliver. I love it.

I also like William, Elliot, Charles (Charlie)

i love the names

Zack-boy
Faye-girl
Madison(Maddie)-girl
James-boy
Luiza-girl

i think Luiza Elizabeth

i think they are lovely names.

Ophilila is a beautiful name!

therealsupergirl · 16/11/2008 19:15

Elizabeth, Amelia, Thea are all lovely.

Ophelia is just too strongly linked to the Hamlet character for me: she went mad and then drowned, in case you aren't familiar with the atory.

How about Rosalind? Or Beatrice? I think they had happier endings

asdmumandteacher · 16/11/2008 19:18

I like Beatrice - Bea - nice

...but then i think of Sarah Ferguson and change my mind

bananapancakes · 16/11/2008 19:19

I think Beatrice is very strong for a little baby girl
but I think Freya is a lovely name to,
when I had my first baby girl, she was at home with me for about a week before I could decide on a name. But I named her Sophia, i think it is a beautiful name

NorthernLurker · 16/11/2008 19:23

Rosalind, Miranda and Beatrice all have happy endings - but you can't have them because they are my names!!!!

NorthernLurker · 16/11/2008 19:24

Not my own names but those of my daughters you understand. Being called Rosalind Miranda Beatrice X would be a heck of a burden!

bananapancakes · 16/11/2008 19:24

Miranda is a nice name, and so is Rosalind, but i still think the poor child will get bullied at school with the name Beatrice

mummyloveslucy · 16/11/2008 19:25

Sophia is gorgeous. It was my great-great Grandmothers name.
That is also a strong possibility.

Beatrice is lovely but our surname is Baker.

OP posts:
asdmumandteacher · 16/11/2008 19:26

Why would she get bullied with a name like Beatrice? I can't think how that would be the case

asdmumandteacher · 16/11/2008 19:27

I like

Thea
Ella
Evie
Niamh
Madeleine

Its hard tho because i teach all girls so have lots of names i don't like because of associations

NorthernLurker · 16/11/2008 19:28

I'll let you know in a few years. I don't see why 'Beatrice' is such a likely target though?

asdmumandteacher · 16/11/2008 19:29

Same here NL..its a lovely name

mummyloveslucy · 16/11/2008 19:30

I would have thought Ophelia would be more likely to attract bullies.

There are a lot of children with posh names at my daughters school, so I don't think it would matter too much.
