Is there such a thing?

Is there such a thing as classic but unusual boys name? DH wants Hector and I like Alexander although I'd like a name that's not in the top 50. Can only hope 'King Prawn' is a girl; their names are so much easier!

Victor (much prefer this to Hector)
Bruce (the new Gus)
Donald (just very cool)
Richie (less trendy/predictable than Archie but a nn for Richard, how much more classic can you get)
Thaddeus (the new Theodore)
Gregory (more solid than Barnaby)
Guy (don't know any but totally normal)
Marcus (a fabulous Roman Classic)
Julius (another Roman Classic, a but harder to 'wear' than Marcus though.

Also love Saul, Peter and Patrick as mentioned above.

I would check out the top 100 list as several of the names listed on here I know to be on there (out of memory Nicholas, Dominic and Marcus are all on there)

I was going to suggest Conrad (but then I am partical to that name as it is my ds')

other that comes to mind are

Sholto (Scotish i believe)
Percival
Basil
Eli
Caradoc
Reginal
Bertram (what dd3 would have been called had she been a boy)

Is hector protector not a phrase used in the UK? Don't call him Hector if you imagine he might ever want to go to Aus.

Names like Richard and Robert and John and Michael will probably be quite unusual amongst the generations currently in production.

angel1976 · 31/10/2008 09:41

Richard! My DH is Richard but it's one of the fastest falling in popularity boy's name. Have a look at this article.
