Topsy - NO she will never be taken seriously, topsy Turvy for evermore (cute nickname though)

Dulcie - reminds me too much of Dolcis and Dulce (as in and gabana)

Lowena - I quite like (like Morwenna)

Lutina - never heard, don't quite get it!

Bridie - quite nice

Hulababy · 15/10/2008 19:41

Topsy - no, sorry. Topsy and Tim, Topsy Turvy... not good name for a school child IMO
Lutina - I don't like it
Lowena - I don't like it
Dulcie - This is quite nice, pretty
Bridie - I don;t like this

Have just discussed with DH - he is sooooooo over the names discussion as this is our 3rd and its my favourite hobby while bored and pregnant.

We got down to Clara and Claudia. He prefers Claudia ' less cloying' he says hee hee.

Are Lutina/Lowena even names?

How do you pronounce Bridie?

Topsy just reminds me of Topsy and Tim.

CoolYourJets · 15/10/2008 22:29

Claa rah or Clay rah?

hester · 15/10/2008 22:38

I know a Topsy - a grown woman. It kind of suits her - she's a bit wacky/cute, but it is one of those names you have to live up to, isn't it? What if your Topsy is neither wacky nor cute, just desperately wanting to be conventional?

I like Dulcie and Lucy. Judy would never have occurred to me in a million years but actually, it's not bad - could be due for a revival!

How about Sadie? Too trendy?

Trudie / Trudy?
Possibly also due for a revival ? I know one, who is a baby. Cute.
Better than Topsy IMO anyway.

Flum · 16/10/2008 20:54

Blimey! What a choice. Keen on Claudia - put off by the fact that it means lame.

Clara pronounced Clar-rah

nappyaddict · 16/10/2008 22:41

have i just made your decision making a million times worse

Flum · 16/10/2008 22:56

Not really the obnly ones tempting ime are Marcia and ever so sligltly Mallory - although it sounds like an American blokes name to me. Marcia is nice but doesn't sound as nice with our surname as Clara or Claudia.

Will probably be a boy anyway p which would be wierd as have 2 girls so expecting it to be another girl really.

OP posts:
nappyaddict · 16/10/2008 23:04

Marcia is one of my favourites

I also like Scout.

Bubbaluv · 17/10/2008 10:30

NappyAddict, I love Guinevere, (Guinn, or Guinny for short) but it is rather a mouthful, and imagine the poor little poppet trying to learn to spell her name!

nappyaddict · 17/10/2008 10:35

No longer than Samantha, Rebecca, Bethany, Natalia, Annabella, Alexandra, Tallulah, Elizabeth etc

MrsMattie · 17/10/2008 10:36

Topsy? Poor kid!

Bridie is the only one that sounds like it wasn't invented by a complete loon - are you Irish? I am and it's strictly a name for ancient ould aunties if you are...

Sorry, but you did ask.

Bridie is nice

The others are a bit, well, hmm.

PuzzleRocks · 17/10/2008 10:40

Oh dear . If you have to ask, I think you know the answer.

turquoise · 17/10/2008 10:48

Dulcie and Bridie are nice.

Of your bigger list - Mary is fabulous. Love it. Can't go wrong with Mary.

Grumpalina · 17/10/2008 10:51

Fine - if you're naming a pet.

For a child absolutley no way

wotulookinat · 17/10/2008 10:55

Topsy? Really? Are you having a cat?

nooka · 17/10/2008 18:26

Bubaluv my name is 9 letters long. I don't remember it being a problem when I was learning to write it. I think when you are tiny you learn by rote in any case. Guinevere is lovely, although I would use the shortening Gwinny.

RachieB · 17/10/2008 19:47

love Clara

do not like any of the original list but spose Dulcie is nicest !
