Elise - nice
Allegra - ok, if you like it
Kemla - not a name surely? doesn't flow off the tongue nicely imo
Dilys - lol - dreadful
Suki - even worse! cutesy, naff.

Cies · 13/10/2008 13:07

I have to say I agree with both Hanaflower and kat2907.

Elise and Allegra nice, the rest, not.

AbbeyA · 13/10/2008 13:25

I'm with your DP on this?
Elise is the only one that is passable, however I'm not keen.
What does he want?

PuppyMonkey · 13/10/2008 13:26

Elsie better...

AbbeyA · 13/10/2008 13:32

I was thinking that at least it was better than Elsie! I know an Elsie in her 80's and she has always hated it, she has always called herself something completely different!

PuzzleRocks · 13/10/2008 13:36

Elise is lovely, Allegra ok, no to the rest.

FlirtyThirty · 13/10/2008 13:41

Elise - nice (are you pronouncing el-ee-sa?)
Allegra - a little poncy for me...unless you have Italian background, in which case lovely.
Kemla - is this really a aname? Looks like a letter is missing.
Dilys - too close to dildo
Suki - no...unless you're japanese

jellybeans · 13/10/2008 13:42

Elise is only one I like.

LoopyLena · 13/10/2008 13:45

Elise Yes, the others No.

MrsMattie · 13/10/2008 13:47

Elise is the only one I like.

monkeymonkeymonkey · 13/10/2008 13:48

I dont really like any of them. Allegra is probably the best of the list, IMO. Sorry.

soundbites · 13/10/2008 13:52

love Allegra, but DH doesn't!

BlueChampagne · 13/10/2008 13:59

Dilys & Elise are my favourites from your list. I have read somewhere that Sukey is a shortened form of Susan. She could always be registered as Susan and have Sukey/Suki as a nickname.

nigeltuffnell · 13/10/2008 15:04

Ah, sombody likes Dilys! hooray.

Thanks for all the views, I appreciate honesty and I dont mind at all if anyone thinks their awful.

Kemla is a real name, I used to work with one LOL at chicken Kemla!
dp hates it so......

Blue, I am thinking of the Japanese Suki, meaning loved one. I really don't like Susan.

What would you shorten Allegra to?
I don't love Allie....
We have Italian family who love it but dp reckons 'leggy 'is just too cruel , esp as she is likely to be short.....

Allegra is gorgeous.
Elise is ok but reminds me of the car (lotus)
I'm not at all keen on your others . Sorry
Go for Allegra.

Elise - beautiful - I really love it

Allegra - absolutely not! Imagine being a 35 yr old serious business woman called Allegra!

Kemla - 'Clean your kitchen with new Kemla!' sounds like a cleaning product.

Dilys - if you are a 85 yr old woman from Wales then it is fine

Suki - If you are a cat

Sorry but you did ask.

So my vote would be for Elise.

shubiedoo · 13/10/2008 17:21

Allegra is an allergy medication too.

Wavedancer · 13/10/2008 17:22

Austin Allegro is a car - so it's quite similar!

I like Elise on your list, although I prefer Elisa.....and none of the others are my cup of tea, sorry.

acoady · 13/10/2008 17:23

Wasn't Allegra a car? No, sorry, confusing it with Allegro.

Sorry, I'm with dh, and if you end up going with a name he hates he will end up using a nickname that you might equally hate (my dh calls our daughter Berol - don't know why).

I knew someone would find a successful Allegra when I pressed post message!!

I just think that the people who have these sorts of names have a lot to live up to. What if she is shy and quiet and yet has this big sort of name like Allegra or Seraphina or Delphinium?

Or the 'trendy' boy names like Vernon or Dennis or Stan? What if they aren't cool enough to carry them off?

Tis just me really. I like names to be a bit different but not soooo different.

artichokes · 13/10/2008 17:28

Lol if you put "Kemla" into Google UK this thread is the second result. That suggests to me it is not a terrible popular name.

I like Elise.
