Mungo keeps being brought up when we discuss names. Dh is not sure but I think it's a cool name which works well for both a young boy and an adult.
I'm hoping to convince dh. So what do you think?

Not for me - reminds me of one of the cats in Cats (Mungo Jerry). Are you Scottish?

annasmami · 07/10/2008 09:24

I like it very much - classic, strong and masculine sounding!

MrsMattie · 07/10/2008 09:25

On a par with Bunty for me.

NorbertDentressangle · 07/10/2008 09:27

Not for me I'm afraid -it takes me back to Mary, Mungo and Midge.

Yeni · 07/10/2008 12:03

I love it. It's a good name if you're Scottish or very posh, otherwise it will be forever associated with a dog living in a tower block.

Liffey · 07/10/2008 12:05

The patron saint of single mothers somebody told me. Very cool. But I'm not posh enough and I'm not Scottish enough, so you can have it. [waves and bows graciously]

I taught a lovely boy called Mungo. Despite his loveliness i could not warm to his name...

Dh loves it, but I'm not so sure.........

Spidermama · 07/10/2008 12:11

I like it. I think it's a grower and I wouldn't worry about the dog in the cartoon series. It was in the 70s after all and I don't think they'll be bringing it back somehow.

My friends called their baby Django, which I think has a similar ring. At first I was a bit concerned but it has really grown on me and any discomfort I may originally have felt has vanished.

LouMacca · 07/10/2008 12:17

No, sorry don't like it at all. I don't think it works well for boy or man.

MaryMungo · 07/10/2008 12:28

I like it, but then, I'm the nostalgic sort

Eniddo · 07/10/2008 12:30

lolol

branflake81 · 07/10/2008 16:46

I think it's ridiculous. Unless you're a cat.

Spidermama · 07/10/2008 17:27

Don't hold back bran. What do you really think?

Frightattendent · 07/10/2008 17:29

Lol Yeni!

Tidgypuds · 07/10/2008 17:32

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, sorry but you asked what we thought. If I heard someone called that I think I would probably start laughing. sorry.

TheBlonde · 07/10/2008 17:32

it's a name for a dog or cat

BlueChampagne · 08/10/2008 13:12

Otherwise known as Kentigern ... and, according to Wikipedia, Hugh Grant's middle name. The things you learn.

accordiongirl · 05/11/2008 00:37

Awful

accordiongirl · 05/11/2008 00:38

Sounds like one of those daft names that really really upper class people have

anamaria22 · 05/11/2008 09:47

Why do you associate 'daft' with upper class....?

Would you also, for another name, say "Sounds like one of those daft names that really really working class people have"??????

I am not English, so have never understood the class thing, but I find it potentially quite hurtful to some people.

Its ok not to like a name. But to 'critise' (and call it daft) because it belongs to a certain class is a little surprising.

mamainstripes · 05/11/2008 09:50

I like it but I think other people do regard me as daft . I think it gets the sort of reaction that my non daft friend got when she called her ds Oscar 15 years ago.

LuLuBai · 05/11/2008 10:42

Oh I love Mungo.

Also love Sholto, Jago and Cosmo.

DH doesn't

Romy7 · 05/11/2008 10:44

no. has mary and midge connotations here too i'm afraid.
i do still have hangups from being called crystal tips though, so i may be biased.
