My dh is Indian so we had this name problem when our ds was born. I like the gentler sounding boys names such as Ashwin, Krishna, Raj.

GreatGooglyMoogly · 06/10/2008 12:13

Ajay, Jay and Neel are quite English-sounding but tbh I have never had a problem pronouncing people's Indian names.

suwoohoohoooooooo · 06/10/2008 12:26

I don't think they have an issue with pronunciation, they just want the name to have a nod to both cultures.

For boys I really like Rohan, Lucas and Corey.
Adrian, Daman work v. well for both.

Girls are easier I think-
I like Mya and Safiya
Names like Minu, Alisha, and Leila seem to fit really easily.

Megglevache · 06/10/2008 13:00

Rahul
Ravi
Harish (Harri)
Vikram (Vik, very trendy )
Jai
Raj
Kiran- we used this for one of ds's middle names

Madhu (Maddie)
Mala
Lata

Sazisi · 06/10/2008 13:13

Asha, Amber (not really Indian but makes me think of India I think there is a boys' name Ambar though..)

Arun, Krishna

missmama · 06/10/2008 13:40

Friends little boy is Adaam

crabby · 06/10/2008 14:48

Lila is the hindi version of juliette as in romeo and... and is a version of lillian and is arabic too.

loobylu3 · 07/10/2008 12:40

My DH is of Asian origin though not at all traditional and I am mixed race so we have also attempted to think of Indian names that are suitable in this country.
We managed to agree on Maya for our first DD (although we spell in Maia).
Unfortunately, for our second child, a boy we failed to find one that we really liked and picked an English name.
It looks as if we may do that for DC3 too!
Here are some names that might be suitable:

Girls:
Maya
Leela (usually spelt Lila, I think)
Priya
Amba
Meera
Uma
Reena
Sita
Geena
Anjali
Zahra (depending on religion, etc)

Boys:
Kiran
Rohan
Prem
Anil/ Ajay
Samir
Viraj/ Vijay
Krishen

Am linking my friend to this thread now, so any more?

ChocOrange05 · 09/10/2008 17:10

Liking this thread - I am half indian and DH is english, it would be nice to use a name which would represent our heritages so I have taken down some of the names I really like.

I know you said they think its a boy, but if its a girl you can use my name if they like it which is "D a n i y a" (sorry for the crypticness, just didn't want this coming up in google!) It is derived from the hindi word for coriander - and my mum (the English half) saw it on a shop shelf and liked it! Its very rare too if they want something different!

LadyG · 21/10/2008 19:55

gauly · 21/10/2008 22:38

I think Ashok works well in English. Can be Ash for short to sound v. English.
