What name do you secretly love but would never use for your child?

For me it's Silas - it reminds me of the adventure programmes I used to watch as a kid. I think one of my first crushes must have been on a character called Silas.

I did suggest it for DS1 (vetoed by DP), but thinking about it I wouldn't want to call my son Silas and I can't really explain why.

Does anybody else have a name that they wouldn't use, but really like nonetheless...?

Jezebel, lovely.

NacMacFeegle · 16/05/2011 19:22

Taliesin. I love it, it was vetoed though.

Coco, had DS2 been a girl he was to be Tuesday! Grin

WiiUnfit · 16/05/2011 19:26

For girls names I love Isabella, Lola, Lara, Layla (bit of a theme there!) & Keira but DP veto'd them all immediately! :( He said he doesn't like the nn Bella, especially when the surname begins with B too, Lola is a showgirl Hmm, Lara Croft, he just plain doesn't like Layla and Keira Knightley Angry

And boys, I love Luca but DP doesn't (we have I think since settled on Lucas) & Leo, but again, DP veto'd!

Asinine · 16/05/2011 19:29

Sara after 'a little princess' by frances hodgson Burnett. Dh vetoed it.

ditheringdonkey · 17/05/2011 10:43

lieseylou · 18/05/2011 19:05

I really like Micah and Malachi but we have an M surname that would sound ridiculous!

legallyblond · 18/05/2011 19:34

I love love love Honeysuckle. I might actually use it tbh....

mrsmon · 18/05/2011 19:52

i love cash tho wouldnt have the guts to use it lol x

fiestabelle · 28/05/2011 21:52

For girls, I love Harper, Piper, Hunter type names, but would never have been brave enough to use them, tho I do regret not using Harper as a MN for DD. I also love the name Loveday, but DH just looked at me as if I was mad when I suggested it - as a MN, DD first name was picked out when I was about 15 and was never up for discussion!!
For a boy, I like Edward, but just too posh for round these parts.

spottyock · 28/05/2011 22:03

St John. Read Jane Eyre at school and loved it since then. Would not call any child it though - think of the ribbing!

Also love Xavier but my DH has vetoed it. Ditto Mabel.

somersetmum · 28/05/2011 22:11

Tristan

releasethehounds · 28/05/2011 22:11

Have always loved Evangeline but day to day would have to call her Evie. Have 2 DDs and didn't call either of them this!

sherbs · 28/05/2011 22:13

Hi I love the name Betty think it is beautiful also Jemima

sherbs · 28/05/2011 22:13

Hi I love the names betty and jemima there so pretty

MeantToStopAtTwo · 28/05/2011 22:48

Gabriella - I feel it's best suited to a dark-haired child. My girls are both very fair.

Alexia - because it means 'inability to read.'

Clementine - because I don't think most people feel the same about it as I do.

Pandora - ditto

I'm sure there are others....

MeantToStopAtTwo · 28/05/2011 22:49

Ah yes, jemima. There's another one. And Ophelia.

EffieB · 29/05/2011 22:27

MsEwe · 09/07/2011 17:21

Lake for a boy and Harper for a girl

I joke not but DH wanted to call a boy Skeet!

ThePopsicleKat · 10/07/2011 18:36

Skeet? Your poor misguided DH, thankfully he has you there to steer him right :o

I always loved the name Issara for a girl after reading it in some book when I was younger, but I think it would be a bit too poncey to inflict on a child. Actually, after a quick google, i'm not sure it's a proper name at all...

fluffles · 10/07/2011 18:39

i LOVE the name skye for a girl, and skye is a really special place to DH and i but... but... i don't know, it's just a bit overdone isn't it?? i should look it up on those 'popular name' sites.. anybody got a link for one?

and wouldn't people think it was sky and write it as sky... ??
