What name do you secretly love but would never use for your child?

For me it's Silas - it reminds me of the adventure programmes I used to watch as a kid. I think one of my first crushes must have been on a character called Silas.

I did suggest it for DS1 (vetoed by DP), but thinking about it I wouldn't want to call my son Silas and I can't really explain why.

Does anybody else have a name that they wouldn't use, but really like nonetheless...?

Jonah - love it but it means bad luck. Instead I chose a name which means happy fortunate one which I also love Smile.

fragglerocks · 23/01/2011 11:58

I love the names Pheobe and Claudia but could not use them :(

GoWestcountry · 25/01/2011 13:59

I love the name Marnie, so does DP but we've just realised how that's going to sound in scouse (DP from Liverpool).

"Our Marnie" anyone? Waah! Back to the drawing board.

muminthesun · 25/01/2011 21:11

Love marni too.:)

Zaft · 26/01/2011 03:35

Cosmo - wasn't even brave enough to use as a middle name for DS.

JoInScotland · 27/01/2011 00:09

I have seen at least two posts saying "Tristan" was a no-go. That is what we called our son. Why is it only on your "dream list"? It suits our son very well. (And parter's last name is very difficult to find a first name to go with it).

fragglerocks · 27/01/2011 01:54

I love the name Persephone but DH says no!

threefeethighandrising · 27/01/2011 23:21

Spike (as in Milligan)

AllieW · 28/01/2011 16:31

Can't use either Isla or Pearl with our surname (Whiteley). Shame, I adore them both.

DH won't let me have Vaughan for a boy either :(

PelvicFloorTrauma · 28/01/2011 16:37

Cymbeline. Name of a Shakespeare play. My DH hates it. Plus would be a real tongue-twister with our surname.

partyof52010 · 28/01/2011 16:44

Judas. Always liked the way it sounded.

Didn't use it though Grin

When I was studying for O Levels I was determined if I had a girl she would be called Anastasia after the tragic russian romanov princess. I was going to call her Anna for short. Now of course it has been ruined by the popsinger and anyway I only seem to breed boys!!

Ria28 · 07/02/2011 02:26

I love Merlin, Guinevere and Caspian Blush but I couldn't inflict them on a child. Maybe as secret middle names...

MommyMayhem · 08/02/2011 09:49

Ella, Isabella, Poppy, Lily, Jasmine... all my favourite names but alas they've become far too popular Sad.

starsandplanets11 · 09/02/2011 12:19

Matilda. Sadly, DH is a cricket fan...

LittleLH · 06/05/2011 13:23

Abernathay, Skye, Summer - love them but I don't want her labelled a hippy before she's even old enough to make a peace sign!
Isla is lovely but doesn't exactly go with White!!
Also Harry but I'm convinced little Harry White will get called Barry White! I'm trying to cover all bullying options.

PotatoWaffle · 08/05/2011 09:03

Trixie and Annabeth

I also love Simeon.

All of which were labelled as too 'weird' by dh Hmm.

RipVanLilka · 08/05/2011 12:06

Kestrel

I never named any of my girls, but I love that name so much

I also love Indigo, Raven and Cadmium

misshospitalcorners · 08/05/2011 13:02

Mallory (love the sound of it, not the meaning) Sad

porkscratchings · 08/05/2011 13:20

Lettice.

I love that. Couldn't do it though.

ImtheDD1 · 16/05/2011 01:09

Serendipity. Couldn't do it to any possible future DD.

qwerty123 · 16/05/2011 10:02

I love the name Rupert. I would worry about teasing though.

upahill · 16/05/2011 10:04

I so wanted to call my potential DD Morag.
Everyone said Thank God I had boys.

I loved that name. I also loved Edie but alas I only had lads so someone else can have them names!

monkeysmum79 · 16/05/2011 12:24

I also love strong bible names but used my favs on my cats..... Abraham, Noah and Moses!
I love Seth also, but I adore Roman & Vaughan for boys ( so fingers crossed we have another boy in the future)
Dh want Hermione for a girl, but its lost its appeal to me since Harry Potter!
My Dc are Jude and Vesper, both names I absolutely ADORE!

CocoKev · 16/05/2011 17:59

Tuesday Elizabeth- I put a thread on here asking for opinions before DC1 arrived and was (strongly) advised against it. Convinced me it might be a bit of a burden for the little one. We had a DS in the end anyway. But if the next one is a DD I'm still very tempted!
