What name do you secretly love but would never use for your child?

For me it's Silas - it reminds me of the adventure programmes I used to watch as a kid. I think one of my first crushes must have been on a character called Silas.

I did suggest it for DS1 (vetoed by DP), but thinking about it I wouldn't want to call my son Silas and I can't really explain why.

Does anybody else have a name that they wouldn't use, but really like nonetheless...?

Ooo Ramona - I REALLY like that. I would have liked Hector or Cressida but am not allowed either.

oh4goodnesssake · 29/10/2010 13:18

I also really like Mercedes but realise that we are not aristocratic enough for it not to sound really Footballers Wives.

BiscuitBob · 29/10/2010 13:38

Oh dear, just realised both both my DS and DH's names are on this thread! I love them both though :o

thell · 29/10/2010 14:34

Don't worry Biscuit - most people seem to be giving the names they wanted but were foiled by their partners, so you will be envied rather than mocked [hgrin]

Gabriel, Jessy for a boy, just love them but I wanted a more traditional boy's name.
Also loved Alfred with Alfie for short but DH overruled that one (and I overruled loads of his suggestions)

I used my best names for girls on my girls :)
Would of liked to use Bluebell, Ruby and Willow.

CheerfulYank · 29/10/2010 18:39

I like Willow too, or really anything naturey. Indigo. I love Indigo. It (or any other color name, like Gray, which I also love) would be cruel with our surname though.

Hester
Dorcas
Dora
Shifra
Mordechai
Rivka
Mercedes

MelinaM · 30/10/2010 23:52

"My name is Tallulah.." fab name! I love Rupert, but apparently that belongs to a certain bear!!! x

Mitchymum · 31/10/2010 00:01

Mordechai! I love that name (keep forgetting it though, and mixing it up with Malachy in my mental list of favourites).

But Mordechai is fab, would love a Mordechai.

angelberg · 13/11/2010 17:29

Marnie for a girl (it's not that I wouldn't, but I'm expecting a boy!!)
Jasper for a boy - but too many memories of one of my parent' dogs!!

angelberg · 13/11/2010 17:31

I mean Marnie after the Hitchcock (anti-)heroine, of course.

pinguwings · 13/11/2010 20:27

Scout :(

taffetacat · 13/11/2010 20:34

Iolanthe or Perdita for a girl

Both vetoed by DH but the name we gave our DD is beautiful and much commented upon - favourably.

dolcegusto · 13/11/2010 20:39

Love dulcie but don't think I'd have the guts to go for it.

katiepotatie · 13/11/2010 20:42

Monty....I love it! It sounds ridiculous with our surname too. Saving it for if we ever get a dog Grin

tethersend · 13/11/2010 20:44

I always loved Denny and planned to call any son I had that name. I successfully convinced DP that if we had a son, he should be called Denny.

We had a DD, and named her Angie which we both love, so thought the next, as yet fictitious, one could be Denny if he's a boy.

Then I realised.

Angie and Den.

I heard the name Pomroy today and now have it fixed in my head - DH already vetoed though :(

harleymars · 13/11/2010 21:48

Flint. I love it but just don't think I'm brave enough.

redflag · 13/11/2010 21:56

Lolita and Aurora.

No one would let me have either, also i don't think any of my son's would be to impressed either :)

smaych · 13/11/2010 22:09

I really love the name Anna, but my husband has vetoed it because it just doesn't feel right to him - boo! :)

I love Shakespearean names like Cressida, but I think I would go for something more "traditional" in the end.

I was really tempted by my mother-in-law's middle name Frederica, and I really like Erica too. But again husband vetoed, said it would be strange to name it after his mother.

Basically husband is very fussy!

My favourite boys name (we don't know the sex yet) is Edwin, but he doesn't like that either.

Husband constantly jokes that he only wants to name the baby Pubert. OH DEAR.

linz76 · 13/11/2010 22:21

Sebastian. I love, love, love it! Unfortunately it woulg go down like a lead balloon in the east coast of Scotland
