What name do you secretly love but would never use for your child?

For me it's Silas - it reminds me of the adventure programmes I used to watch as a kid. I think one of my first crushes must have been on a character called Silas.

I did suggest it for DS1 (vetoed by DP), but thinking about it I wouldn't want to call my son Silas and I can't really explain why.

Does anybody else have a name that they wouldn't use, but really like nonetheless...?

LJS666, why "is it a good job that you have boys". I LOVE your chosen girls' names .

In fact almost all names on this thread are gorgeous. Perhaps we should all be a little more 'brave'...!

Kathleen123 · 27/07/2010 14:40

Flavia - girls names.

Arthur - boys name

LeviStubbsTears · 27/07/2010 15:02

Jerome.

Friend said it was pretentious and effete. A bit better thought of in Ireland, I think (DH is Irish), but we are unlikely ever to live there.

(This is a fascinating thread! Arthur is the only name I'm considering that others on here have vetoed.)

mixedmamameansbusiness · 27/07/2010 16:21

Atticus - mainly because I would just never be allowed. I am pushing for Jem this time if a boy though.

mixedmamameansbusiness · 27/07/2010 16:24

And pretty any Shakespeare character.

Benvolio
Mercutio
Ophelia

etc etc you get the picture

naturalbaby · 27/07/2010 20:25

LiquoriceLila · 27/07/2010 20:39

Autumn for a girl, love it but doesnt go with our surname and River and Romeo for a boy.

skyeplusbump · 27/07/2010 22:50

jezebelle- i LOVE this name so much i actually considered it for dd
kept asking pepole what they thought when they heard it!
answer was always the same!
such a shame!

and...
giacomo-for a boy (pron jack-a-mo)
twas cassanovas first name!

Rosebud05 · 27/07/2010 23:16

Spike for a boy. Doesn't go with our surname, vetoed by dh, and possibly a bit bold for me, but I love it.

CuppaTeaJanice · 28/07/2010 15:03

Aww, my old Silas thread is back!

It's like welcoming home a long lost child - I was so proud when he made it into the 'Discussion of the day' list back in 2008!!!

Juno - love the name but no one else I know does, especially in my family!

KERALA1 · 28/07/2010 20:36

Augusta
Hester
Clover

elainesdaughter · 28/07/2010 20:43

Trixie for a girl

Simeon for a boy

MrsTicklemouse · 28/07/2010 21:07

Oakley/Oak for a boy, it's sooo not me but I can't help but love it (the DS's have normal names!!)

LexieKJ · 29/07/2010 18:07

Both of mine have been mentioned on the first page lol. Jesse for a boy and Clementine for a girl. I could possibly see myself using Jesse sometime in the future, but I'm not sure I'll ever have the guts to use Clementine. My surname would be absolutely fine with it, but it's one of those names I find cute on a child, but I don't think it really grows up with them, if that makes sense!

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 29/07/2010 18:33

Lysander
Ophelia
Mercutio
Moth
Oberon

...I work in theatre so any obvious Shakespeare names are a no go (which is why Sebastian and Kate have snuck into our top 5)

Currently loving Rhydian which EVERYONE turns their nose up at.

Would have loved Lyra or Lola or Mylo but all sound like porn stars with our surname

ticklemouse loving Oakley!! off to suggest to DH

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 29/07/2010 18:34

boo Oakley vetoed

BarbieLovesKen · 29/07/2010 19:40

Sonny - dh hates us

fourbears · 28/10/2010 17:18

I really like the names Xanthe and Ptolomy but we went with safe biblical names that I love more! Also DH and I really liked Maria but it wouldn't go with our surname.

Mushroomflumps · 28/10/2010 19:40

Xavier
Hadley
Lyndon

DH said no Sad

sleepyhorse · 28/10/2010 19:49

Would love to give my son a name like Romeo...but everyone would think I was copying the Beckhams (plus would be too worried he would get picked on at school!)

Mitchymum · 28/10/2010 21:45

Malachi

Rhubarbgarden · 29/10/2010 08:23

Ludmila
Anouk

but we have neither Russian nor French connections. Boo.

Divejaney · 29/10/2010 12:52

This thread is the ideal place to find a name for DS2 seeing as we already have a Gabriel!

We nearly did Jareth (Goblin King from Labyrinth) as Gabriel's middle name last time round but I wimped out.

I would love Angel as we have lived in Spain but very cruel for a boy here, especially in combo with Gabriel :)

BiscuitBob · 29/10/2010 13:11

I really like Silas too, but agree it just doesn't seem right!

Also like Lazarus but well...

I like Persephone and Felix, but DH vetoed both.
