What name do you secretly love but would never use for your child?

For me it's Silas - it reminds me of the adventure programmes I used to watch as a kid. I think one of my first crushes must have been on a character called Silas.

I did suggest it for DS1 (vetoed by DP), but thinking about it I wouldn't want to call my son Silas and I can't really explain why.

Does anybody else have a name that they wouldn't use, but really like nonetheless...?

Ziggy !!

I love it and yes, i would seriously use it.

DH however is far too boring conventional.

(DS is up for it. BIG lazytown fan...)

Also like Huckleberry/Huck, but even I can see the potential for teasing there....

I wanted Hermione, but the timing after HP came out made it all wrong. My boy name was Alfie but that cat got that instead

susie100 · 31/10/2008 09:26

I love Emmeline and Evelina...both vetoed by DH.

accordiongirl · 05/11/2008 00:29

Gertrude

Lydia, Lucien, Wade, Evelyn.

June - I love it, it's my gran's name, but really does not fit with OH's surname. It'll probably be a middle name though.

Byron and Taliesin - I LOVE both of these and OH hates them as he knew some completel kn*bs called them.

I wanna a Saskia!!

But when preggers with dd1 I had decided on it [dh still had rabbit in headlights look and so names were beyond him] but then, I was leaving the house and a terrrifying women leant out her upstairs window and yelled 'Saskia, get in 'ere for your bloody tea'

Wasn't you was it?

Have moved now so maybe this time.......

treedelivery · 23/11/2008 14:36

wanna Saskia.

Wanna be able to type too!

grouchyoscar · 23/11/2008 14:40

For boys
Virgil
Stirling
Buckner

For a girl
Harper-Lee

Good job my family is complete really! Some think Edgar is bad enough!

Antdamm · 30/11/2008 13:22

I always wanted Mallaig, Landon or Atticus for a boy but DP isnt very keen at all. He likes traditional names like Edward and Andrew etc. Which Im not a big fan of.
DS is John, which DP picked, so maybe next time I'll get to use of mine

wombleprincess · 30/11/2008 22:30

virginia... ha ha..

edam · 30/11/2008 22:32

Love Taliesin but think it would be a bit brave given that we don't live anywhere near Wales.

Always wanted Venetia for a girl after the Georgette Heyer novel but it would sound a bit pretentious, I reckon.

WinkyWinkola · 30/01/2009 22:56

Babette.

I love it. It's cute, it's funky and stylish. But I just don't think I could ever use it. Maybe I'll change my mind. If the need for a new baby name ever arises.

ScottishMummy · 30/01/2009 23:10

Tallulah- too bugsy malone

Katonahottinroof · 30/01/2009 23:23

I LOVE Savannah but always got vetoed by DH plus not sure I'd be brave enough to use it.
Similarly Claudia although I'll fight for it if I have a DD3.

Love Vincent and Gabriel for boys but don't think I'd ever use them.

Longtalljosie · 31/01/2009 08:49

Because of our surname (Cull), can't go with any of the flower names I'd like - Daisy, Rose etc - it sound like someone running amok with secateurs.

I love Lyra (after His Dark Materials) but DH has totally vetoed

For boys, we like Eli but are a bit torn... we're addicted to Eli Stone (a TV series you probably haven't heard of, it's on the Sci Fi channel) - but could we really name a child after a central character with a brain aneurism, even if it is a brain aneurism which helps him see the future? I think probably not...

Frasersmum123 · 31/01/2009 09:52

I really like Natalia but DH vetoed it.

For a boy I really love Benjamin, but because our surname begins with Ben it just doesnt go.

pavlovthecat · 31/01/2009 09:54

Crowley - Dh likes this. But clearly we would not advertise this our friends, or actually call our child it.

sammysamsam · 05/02/2009 15:23

Lu'lu - love it, it's so cute. means 'pearl' in arabic

Lotster · 05/02/2009 16:23

Libertine.

BrownSuga · 05/02/2009 16:30

I like Breeze for a girl, but worry it's too out there.

Noah for a boy, but it doesn't go with our surname.

LongTall I was thinking Nathaniel for a DS2 if we have one, but then realised seeing as we have an Elijah, it would be ridiculous. Ref to Eli Stone. Brothers Eli and Nate! I love that show too btw.
