WDYT?

Is it a bit 'east end cockney' or is it cool and different?

GooseyLoosey · 29/09/2008 17:07

I wouldn't do it.

TheBlonde · 29/09/2008 17:10

I like it but DH didn't

artichokes · 29/09/2008 17:12

I love it. I would use it if we had a boy. It was my Grandad's middle name.

Where I live it is already pretty popular so I would not call it "different" (interestingly I am London but West End not East).

mabel1973 · 29/09/2008 17:13

love it!

It was my dad's name, we used to laugh at it when we were kids. I was delighted when it made a comeback as a 'grandad cool' name. I only know a couple of boys called it and they are poshies.

maretta · 29/09/2008 17:58

I like it

maretta · 29/09/2008 17:58

I like it

Cies · 29/09/2008 18:01

It´s okay. Not great, not awful, okay.

Although I know a couple of dogs called Stanley, so I might have that association in my brain.

TheWoodWithinTheWall · 29/09/2008 18:01

I know three Stanleys (I am a nursery school teacher). I would say it has a bit of a common feel to it like Reggie and Ronnie.

twosofar · 29/09/2008 18:33

I have a Stanley who is 2y 6m. Obviously I love it! We are in Dulwich, South East London and as yet I haven't come across any others here.

lovemybuggy · 30/09/2008 16:04

Awful,i know a Stanley who is a year old.Everytime i see him i think poor little thing,sorry

PuppyMonkey · 30/09/2008 16:06

That's another fine mess, Stanley

MrsMattie · 30/09/2008 16:06

Not keen on those overly retro names, to be honest.

SpringBlossom · 30/09/2008 16:08

The only baby Stanley I know is very 'well to do' so I wonder if it's making a reappearance at the upmarket end of the name game. Personally, although I like the vogue for old fashioned names this is not one I would go for...

TheFallenMadonna · 30/09/2008 16:09

There are 3 at ds's school. Three!

zippitippitoes · 30/09/2008 16:10

this is the only name where i have regretted asking the mum what her baby was called because she said stanley and i am sure i did the shock look

was a customer in my shop and i felt awful after

Remotew · 30/09/2008 18:48

IMHO I think its lovely, resurrecting a classic name, not chavvy at all and if I had a son I would call him this. I've thought about this since reading this thread the other day and I cannot think of a better name for a little boy. Stan for short is brill. Do it or I will kill you

EyeballsintheSky · 30/09/2008 18:50

Love it totally. Have always wanted a little boy called Stanley with mud on his knees and his socks falling down. Aww..

8oreighty · 30/09/2008 18:51

love it, and have met a few lately...so not so odd.

Remotew · 30/09/2008 18:56

I will repeat sorry please call your son STANLEY, sorry for shouting.

I regret not calling my daughter after my mum who was Mary, but DD has assured me that she will call her daughter Mary. I will make sure she calls her son Stanley (after my dad).

MadBadandDangeroustoKnow · 30/09/2008 19:05

Lovely name, was pretty popular around here - not a million miles from Dulwich - about 12 years ago. Know or know of several teenage Stanleys.

DeJaVous · 30/09/2008 19:11

Stanley is great. Love it.

Remotew · 30/09/2008 19:11

Stan as a teen or a toddler is cool!
