Well my middle name is Margaret, but I don't like Maggie much tbh - if it was my first name I would prefer the nickname Greta...

but that is just me

(not my first name anyway!)

Negative - because of Thatcher (also child of the 80s) Sorry.

brimfull · 20/09/2008 09:52

love it

brimfull · 20/09/2008 09:54

my mum is margaret

she is called Rea though

margaret is mine and dd's middle name

katiepotatie · 20/09/2008 09:54

I love it

DisenchantedPlusBump · 20/09/2008 09:54

Simpsons, thatcher, maggie and the ferocious beast ...

not to my taste as a name either really.

But as I always say if you like it then you choose it

brimfull · 20/09/2008 09:54

prefer margaret to maggie if I'm honest

WinkyWinkola · 20/09/2008 09:59

I really like Maggie. It's v. sweet. Not Margaret though. I think that's a bit stuffy.

mum2jakeyroo · 20/09/2008 10:09

Margaret/Maggie has been on my list of girls names for 4 years now but only had boys. I love it.

TwoMore · 20/09/2008 10:10

love Margo, and think Margaret and Maggie are classics and nice.

Peachy · 20/09/2008 10:16

I'd really like it were it not for Thatcher

That ruins it for me sadly, but you have to go for what you want, not some person you never met!

Reginaphilangy · 20/09/2008 10:17

Aww i think its really sweet!

Not sure that i would use it myself though ...

LynetteScavo · 20/09/2008 10:20

Maggie, Maggie, Maggie, Out, Out, Out!

Sorry, another child of the '80s.

Anglepoise · 20/09/2008 10:55

I really like it (particularly after reading Mill on the Floss) but the Thatcher thing puts me off, plus DH is five years older than me so it's an even stronger association for him. Pah.

frazzledoldbag34 · 20/09/2008 12:43

Thatcher also puts me off it.
Not bad though. What about Margot instead?

PuppyMonkey · 20/09/2008 12:44

Nah, Thatcher...

You want a Maddie instead...

nickeldime · 20/09/2008 13:21

Quite a nice name, and it's trending up in popularity in recent years: www.babynamespedia.com/meaning/Maggie

TheConfusedOne · 20/09/2008 13:36

Will become popular with the actress Maggie Gyllenhaal, being in the Dark Knight, mark my words.

chandellina · 20/09/2008 18:12

nice name but there is the maggot factor.

Margot is a nightmare name, i can confidently say. no one can pronounce it or spell it.

mazzystar · 20/09/2008 18:13

is fab
reclaim it from thatch

dinkymum · 20/09/2008 22:55

i like it, wanted my niece to be called this, because she looked like a maggie but they went with Ayesha instead. tut, these parentas that think they have the right to name their offspring eh!?

wilkos · 20/09/2008 23:09

I am having a Maggie next time round, short for Marianne which i love but is a bit of a mouthful!

So yes its great go for it x
