One of the names on our list. I really love it but I don't really like Becky If we were to use Rebecca (I don't even know if I'm having a boy or a girl yet) is Becky inevitable?

Ive got a Rebecca, She is either Rebecca or Becca.

Hate Becky/Bex and havent used them.

DD2 says her name is Becca - she is 2!

DanJARMouse · 15/09/2008 19:07

Havent had anyone call DD2 Becky either. We do call DD2 Boo sometimes too.

Abigail was also on our shortlist for DD2 but I hate Abs. Abby is ok, but Abs is just not nice imo.

Jessica and Rebecca are my 2 girls and they are fab names!

McDreamy · 15/09/2008 19:07

No not chavvy at all squeaver, just dislike Becky. I think Rebecca is a beautiful classic name but for me when shortened to Becky it just loses it for me.

Iv always loved Bethany, but she definately would be shortened to Beth, and I just dont like that for a baby.

chelsygirl · 15/09/2008 19:13

Rebecca/Becky/Bex gorgeous names

purpleflower · 15/09/2008 19:23

Rebecca is top of our list if this one is a girl, we chose it for DS and still liked it so much this time round.

Twelvelegs · 15/09/2008 19:26

Boring and horrid.

Cies · 15/09/2008 19:26

Rebecca for me is a beautiful classic name. I´d echo what other posters have said - it doesn´t have to become Becky.

sweetkitty · 15/09/2008 19:29

flubdub - our Bethany is 9 weeks old and already gets called Bethies, Beths and Bebops I know it will get shortened to Beth eventually

We have an Abigail shortened to Abbie agree hate Abs

DD2's name gets shortened to Tals which I hate too

Rebecca is lovely we couldn't have it as it doesn't "go" with our surname

I think it's inevitable names get shortened

SquiffyHock · 15/09/2008 19:30

I do get lots of people calling me Rachel though

Desiderata · 15/09/2008 19:33

Well, I'm a Rebecca, and I love being called Becky, Bex, whatever.

Rebecca is very formal, and a bit up your arse. The sort of person who insists upon the full name being used should definitely go for another name.

You'll only wind people up, including yourself

mellyonion · 15/09/2008 19:37

i loved the name rebekah....how about shortening it to reba???

(well...i like it anyway! )

flubdub · 15/09/2008 19:44

thanks twelvelegs!

Well, I happen to HATE the name twelve! So, naaaah!

Twelvelegs · 15/09/2008 19:50

Flub, sorry. Tired and only reaing OP.
Don't worry I'm calling my boy Oslo..... so I've tough skin. No wink as this is no joke!

McDreamy · 15/09/2008 20:01

Well certainly not boring Twelve

I know lots of Rebeccas who are just known as Rebecca and never by a nickname. Should be fine

gingerninja · 15/09/2008 20:14

I'm Rebecca and never Becky. Don't mind some of the other shortened versions but I hate Becky. Very few people I know shorten it anyway and it's nothing to do with being up my own arse , it's my name so that's what I like to be called. Personally I like the name and if I wasn't called it, it'd be on my list for the next one.

Desiderata · 15/09/2008 21:00

Hmm, but do you not find people who insist on being called by their full name, their proper name, a bit nauseating?

I frankly couldn't care less if someone called me shithead, providing there was some affection or humour behind it. It's just a bit sniffy to go around building brick walls at the very first level of introduction.

Admit it.

'Cos it is.

reban · 15/09/2008 21:22

Im a Rebecca and i dont mind it but i hate being called Becky/Becks etc. Unfortunately i have found it inevitable even though my parents have always called me Rebecca extended family, school friends etc have always refered to me as becky/becks no matter how many times they have been corrected. Also really annoying when i introduce myself as Rebecca and immediately get called Becky in return, i have to correct them!

Desiderata · 15/09/2008 21:47

That's because it's a mouthful, and life's hard enough.

I work with a girl called Daniella, who insists on being called just that. So, to be contrary, I don't.

I just call her shithead. It's quicker!

MrsBadger · 15/09/2008 22:07

people 'insisting' on being called their full name is 'nauseating'?

what?

it's their name, who are you to start calling them something else?

this is a bugbear of mine, esp in a professional setting where people should know better

I'm not 'building brick walls' - if I introduce myself as Wilhelmina then wtf would you call me Billie?

MrsBadger · 15/09/2008 22:09

oh desi I missed your wink

I have Had Trouble today with the new students at work who think they can run around calling their bosses affectionate abbreviations

sorry fo rthe sens of humour failure

reban · 17/09/2008 10:32

just as another emample i started a course at college yesterday. The tutor was reading through register to check who was there. She came to my name (about 20 names in) and although i know it was written as Rebecca she said Becky. I automatically said Rebecca, but smiled and she corrected herself. I just dont get why people hear or read Rebecca and automatically turn it into becky! Also i dont notice it happening with other people's names

mummyloveslucy · 17/09/2008 10:38

Whats wrong with Becky?
