Clemency - what do you think?

I like this name but when I've mentioned it to friends, it gets the thumbs down. Would love some opinions!

I prefer Clemence, Clement (for a boy) or Clementine

but Clemency is quite pretty too

Very pretty, I love Clement for a boy too, Clem for short, very warm, friendly name.
DP disagreed, he said it made him think of clammy......

I wanted Clement for a boy but DH wouldn't hear of it - he said if we get a male cat I can call it Clement

Clemency is just a word to me, not a person's name. Like calling someone 'Kindness'! Nope. Clem is a nice abbreviation and could be a name on its own.

Clemency first started being used by the puritans- would you therefore class Faith, Hope,Joy, Charity, Patience as names because their a word? It's certainly less common than those ones, but so is Verity and that is becoming more popular.

I think of it being a legal term as well, not a name. Clementine I like however.

differentID. Any word can become a name if enough people have it as their name. But I still think Clemency is at the 'word' and not 'name' stage, unlike Verity. The puritans also called their girls Chastity - now shall we resurrect that one?!
