My husband likes 'Boston'

My husband announced the other day that he really likes the name Boston for our son who is due in November.

Its not a bad name but I'm a little reluctant as I think people might keep saying things like 'Oh, was that where he was conceived' (it wasn't, by the way)

What do you think?

Thumbwitch - DH is French/British I am British the name Snorri is... Icelandic/Scandanavian. It is spelt with two rs - sorry for my mis-spelling earlier!!!

I think he wanted to name our child after Snorri Sturluson who was a master storyteller (1179-1241). I will check with him in the morning as he is asleep now.

And p.s I let him name dd his choice for a girls name and when we told mil what we had named her granddaughter she laughed and said "Oh. Right. So... is that a kind of curry?"

Anyway, anyway, anyway... Pinkglow - Did you have any other names other than Boston??? Tell us some other ideas you have - I bet you have a really nice smasher up your sleeve that everyone wished they had called their sons!

I don't blame him. It's a lovely city. Has he been to the aquarium? I must take dd there when she is old enough. There was some kind of parade on when we were there to do with Paul Revere and his raiders. Only four hours from
NY by train so well worth a visit.

Oh wait, this is a names thread?

CoolYourJets · 01/09/2008 01:37

hmmm, How about Toto instead?

twentypence · 01/09/2008 02:48

Only if your surname is Bun.

I love it

frazzledoldbag34 · 01/09/2008 10:46

Hee Hee
Only joking.
You may only use it if your surname is 'Terrier'

Sorry not trying to be mean but it's just a bit of a 'no'

Nbg · 01/09/2008 10:49

Boston is the sort of name my dh would like too.
He came up with Burton for our ds2 an while I kind of liked it, it just didnt seem right.
When I look at him now, I'm glad we didnt call him that.

They're more like surname names.

ok thanks everyone

it was never my choice for a name BTW I prefer Gabriel, Peter or Ivo

my OH is american so knows a couple of Bostons (he also knows a London and a Bristol) I tried telling him that Place names aren't really popular here so perhaps its not a great idea - although didnt quite expect the response I got here.

a London??? whst, really? Wow. poor kid.

Like all your choices much better, btw

teafortwo · 01/09/2008 18:36

I love 'Peter' - It is a very strong and kind name (meaning rock)! My Dad is called Peter and he is my rock. I knew you'd have a gem up your sleeve! - Excellent name!!!

Pinkglow I can just imagine walking through your front door now...

"Hello Teafortwo - here is my gorgous son, Peter and over there is my cute puppy dog, Boston! Shall I put the kettle on?"

MrsMattie · 01/09/2008 18:37

I know a woman called London, actually!

Boston is a really wankerama name, sorry!

teafortwo · 01/09/2008 18:41

But MrsMattie - do you like Peter, Gabriel or Ivo?

thumbwitch · 01/09/2008 22:23

I prefer Ivor to Ivo but only because of Ivor the Engine

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 01/09/2008 22:48

That's a no from me too.

How about Dagenham Auchtermuchty?

thumbwitch · 01/09/2008 22:55

oh well, if we;re going to be silly about it, what about Newport Pagnell?

(btw, I love the name Auchtermuchty as a town - drove through it many years ago..)

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 01/09/2008 23:01

Yup, I was being silly. I really don't like place names as names but, as has oft been remarked, all opinions here are but chaff in the breeze and people must pick the names that they like.

Clary · 02/09/2008 00:39

Bristol? That's the name of Sarah Palin's (US would-be VP) pg 17yo daughter, apparently.
