My husband likes 'Boston'

My husband announced the other day that he really likes the name Boston for our son who is due in November.

Its not a bad name but I'm a little reluctant as I think people might keep saying things like 'Oh, was that where he was conceived' (it wasn't, by the way)

What do you think?

tbh I would certaininly think it was a strong possibility he was concieved there when I heard the name.
Will say NOOOOO, but not be rude about it

Blandmum · 31/08/2008 22:44

with Llan for short? Classy!

TillyScoutsmum · 31/08/2008 22:44

It could be "Bostin" if you're in the Black Country

Just no. Really. Just no

onceinalifetime · 31/08/2008 22:46

Quick on the draw Bree!

No, really please don't - apart from all the other variations, imagine all the shortened versions - The Bos, Bost, Bosty, Bosty Boots....

Mortlake
Putney
Barnes

Winnersh
Earley
Reading

Leuchars
Anstruther (pronounced Ainster)

Bromley
Clapham
Victoria (for a boy, naturally. Far too ordinary for a girl)

BreeVanderCampLGJ · 31/08/2008 22:48

I know, how about....NewTownMountKennedy...??

Blandmum · 31/08/2008 22:49

Now, Newton StBoswell is quite the poshest name....

thumbwitch · 31/08/2008 22:50

Really though, if you think people on MN are being rude about it, imagine how the poor kid's going to feel coping with it day to day. Please don't.

onceinalifetime · 31/08/2008 22:52

Close to Boston.....Cape Cod?

Clary · 31/08/2008 22:52

Boston is the town in Lincolnshire with the fattest people in the UK (I believe) who are also most unwilling to walk (some link there).

I wouldn't do it, no.

BreeVanderCampLGJ · 31/08/2008 22:53

Agree with Thumb, we are just gently ribbing, can you imagine school....really it does not bear thinking about.

onceinalifetime · 31/08/2008 22:55

Clary, that's funny as I imagined a chubby, red cheeked child when I heard the name - Boston Bunter, Billy's little brother. Sorry Pinkglow, it's getting too much of a reaction.

supermindermum · 31/08/2008 23:08

NO - don't do it.

teafortwo · 31/08/2008 23:08

My dh wanted to call our baby Snori if it was a boy - I said "I think it is quite funny for a boy but I promise when we have a dog we will call it Snori. It is a nice name for a dog!"

Could you present the same or if he isn't a dog person a similar arguement with Boston?

thumbwitch · 31/08/2008 23:13

teafortwo - glad you talked your DH out of it as it does rather sound like he should have had brothers called Sneezy, Grumpy and Doc
(profound apologies for cultural ignorance but it did make me smile )

teafortwo · 31/08/2008 23:16

ha ha ha ha ha ha Thumbwitch - me too!!!

The thing is he wants a female dog and is a bit huffy because Snori is a boys name!!!

I keep telling him "No-one will notice!"

ravenAK · 31/08/2008 23:20

Having spent formative years in the West Midlands (& a gig last night where dh's band were supported by a lovely Brummie band) I can't stop hearing 'Bostin'!' in a broad Dudleeeh accent...

Anglepoise · 31/08/2008 23:21

Why Boston if he wasn't conceived there? Do you have a link with it?

I'm in the no camp, sorry.

thumbwitch · 31/08/2008 23:22

teafortwo - perhaps he could call the dog Snoria? or is that not a valid feminisation? (btw, please enlighten my cultural ignorance - where is the name Snori from?)
