Edith or Esther?

Which do you like best and why?

Esther, don't know why but i really really like it.
Edith makes me think of grannies with winged glasses

I think that Edith is one of those 'old fashioned' names that isn't due for a come back - bit like Vera - whereas Esther is pretty and doesn't seem 'old lady-ish'.

Just to buck the trend, I like Edith better. I think Edie is a really sweet shortening for a little girl and Edith is very classy. But I like Esther, too.

I don't like either, I think marginally Edith is preferable but as someone said it is old fashioned like Vera, Doris,Elsie, Hilda etc and not very pretty.

Edith. It's a prettier sound. Esther is nice too, but I just prefer the sound of Edith. I think Edith is more now so there are probably fewer Esthers out there, if that matters. Edith and Edie are nice imo. What can Esther be shortened to? Nothing really.

Esther....but I know a few lovely Esther's...which is possibly why I like the name
Saying that, I know a very stunning and lovely Edith, and the name really suited her....however, this was in Germany and the name is pronounced differently, and I prefer that pronounciation, I suppose

Hi, Esther is lovely. Hester similar and also lovely. Edith's tricky ... I have the same reservations as PPs. It's a bit grannified, and probably not quite right for a revival. Can't see it doing a Ruby for eg.
On the other hand, if you like it then you use it. Your baby, your choice. Once she's named people will have to be nice about it
