Which do you like best and why?

edith it was my nannys name and she was a legend mind you everyone called her dinky

HonoriaGlossop · 25/08/2008 18:52

Esther is really pretty. Edith - not pretty IMO

weepootle · 25/08/2008 18:54

I think Edith is about as ugly as a name can get. Esther is nice though.

JoyS · 25/08/2008 20:01

Love them both, had them on the short list for dd2 but couldn't talk dh round so ended up not using either. Edith/edie due for a comeback imo!

BigBadMousey · 25/08/2008 20:19

Edith because it is prettier and I like the shortened version Edie. Esther reminds me of Esther Rantzen and my A Level Chemistry homework on Esters

dinkymum · 25/08/2008 20:59

I like both but I do like the nickname Edie think its real sweet so i'd def gon with edith out of the two!
xx

MerryMarigold · 25/08/2008 21:02

We were thinking of Edie too as an abbreviation, but I never liked Edith as much - so we abandoned it.

Esther is beautiful; Edith is a bit "old lady". Hester is also lovely.

choosyfloosy · 25/08/2008 21:13

Edith is lovely - very 'hot' - though clearly you will get a lot of horrified looks as well.

Esther is a gorgeous name too and more timeless IMO.

You don't fancy Vashti do you? I'd love to know a Vashti or two.

terrapin · 25/08/2008 21:22

Edith,definately.

blithedance · 25/08/2008 21:35

Esther is a nice name but too common atm. Edith lovely and unusual, I have never come across any.

Recently heard a mum telling off her "Felix and Esther" at a theme park, somehow those names sounded like they shouldn't be misbehaving.

Hulababy · 25/08/2008 21:40

Edith - lovely name

Don't really like Esther.

Clary · 26/08/2008 01:15

I really like Edith.

Name of the wife of the last English king of err, well, England (Harold) - she was known as Edith Swan Neck because she was so beautiful, and of course all the other women were called Edith too I think.

Lovely old English name. lol at flier's grannies with glasses.

These names are coming back (not Hilda perhaps) - think of Grace, Beth, Ellen, Constance.

interesting how some say it's very unpopular, some say it is very popular (I have come across 3 and I have met/known about a lot of children) some say it's pretty, some say it's ugly. Just shows you can't please everyone!

Esther - nice name too but not my fave. Just finished a book about a girl called that so am liking atm (enjoyed the book).

beanieb · 26/08/2008 09:45

Edith. Though I like Esther, it's just hard to say!

belgo · 26/08/2008 09:47

I like both Esther and Edith. Edith is very old fashioned though.

beanieb · 26/08/2008 09:54

My manager is called Edith. She's 50 but until I read this thread I didn't think of it as an old person at all.

It has Welsh connections too and in Wales could be pronounced EH-Dith. Much nicer as Edie though.

artichokes · 26/08/2008 10:02

Esther is lovely and not overused at the moment.
Edith is too "of the moment" and reminds me of both the Radio 1 DJ and the tarty Edie in Desperate Housewives.

Fimbo · 26/08/2008 10:19

Esther is nice, i also like Hester.

cece · 26/08/2008 10:25

I love both of them but would probably go fro Esther.

mell242 · 28/08/2008 17:04

I love Edie...
If I was having a girl (I'm expecting a boy in 6 weeks) that was my choice. It was actually my nan's first name. I would prefer Edie over Edith though.
