I'm compiling a list atm and may add this.
Any thoughts? I wonder if this will become trendy as I've heard of a few babies recently called this.

's a singer

harpomarx · 18/08/2008 13:51

nice, probably is already trendy if that bothers you. I know a couple too.

Not keen.

Stars22 · 18/08/2008 18:43

horrible..sorry

pointydog · 18/08/2008 18:48

A nice word but for some reason I've never considered it a nice name

Evelynsmum · 18/08/2008 19:59

You would then be "Mother of Pearl" which would be cool.

moondog · 18/08/2008 20:00

Groovy name

twosofar · 19/08/2008 15:56

Love it, very modern but beware the porno 'pearl necklace' gags later in life!

cheesesarnie · 19/08/2008 15:57

marymungoandmidge · 19/08/2008 15:58

Not for me, sounds to old lady.

Mammina · 19/08/2008 22:05

Love it. I do know one who was born this year though, but that's the only one I've known who's under 80

eyeballsintheSky · 19/08/2008 22:07

What iklboo said too

Bugger it. Have to download it now. you've cost me 79p

tiggerlovestobounce · 19/08/2008 22:07

Pearl Necklace, Pearl Jam - no way.

EllieG · 19/08/2008 22:08

I think sweet name, but can't help having image of Primrose Hill type people having lots of swinging fun as Pearl whatserface Supergrass wife was supposed to have been part of all that stuff with Jude Law and Sadie Frost and things.

I clearly pay too much attention to Heat magazine.

Drusilla · 19/08/2008 22:09

I would think of an old lady with a blue rinse

dizzydixies · 19/08/2008 22:10

I like it

expatinscotland · 19/08/2008 22:11

I like it.

Not for most of the reasons given here.

In the past I had a flair for the dramatic and a flair for the romantic and was an avid reader of the classics.

Hester Prynne in 'The Scarlett Letter' named her daughter this because the baby was 'one bought at great cost' and I had a fancy for the sentiment.

But DD1 didn't look like a Pearl and DH wasn't keen so she wound up a Gaelic version of Helen, which suits her far more.

dizzydixies · 19/08/2008 22:12

hi expat how are you keeping?
I saw a wee girl in the paper today called Muiranne and she so DIDN'T look like a Muiranne - wonder if I should write and demand she change her name

MadBadandDangeroustoKnow · 19/08/2008 22:26

I like it (rude jokes notwithstanding) and certainly think it's a nicer name than the fine but chronically over-used Ruby.

LynetteScavo · 19/08/2008 22:30

I don't know any. (Obviously not trendy enough) Not keen. [polite emoticon]

WinkyWinkola · 19/08/2008 23:01

Great name.

Aitch · 19/08/2008 23:04

i know a pearl, she's a sweetheart.
