I say Eve-lyn

Shitehawk · 18/08/2008 13:53

Eve-lyn. It's my mum's name.

sunshineonarainyday · 18/08/2008 13:55

Eve-lyn

branflake81 · 18/08/2008 13:57

I would say Ev-er-lyn. Is that wrong?

Bronze · 18/08/2008 13:58

Eve-lyn here too. It was my Grandmothers name and is DDs middle name

WaynettaSlob · 18/08/2008 13:58

I would say Ev-eh-lyn........but that's the Irish way.....

ChopsTheDuck · 18/08/2008 14:06

same as waynetta. Only ever met one and she was ev-ah-lyn.

pagwatch · 18/08/2008 14:08

ev-ah-lyn.
( but my family are Irish too)

Shitehawk · 18/08/2008 14:11

My mum would be most unhappy to be called Ev-er-lin. Or Ev-lin, or Eeva-lin, which is how some people pronounce it. Someone even pronounced it Evil Lyn once.

Tis a bag of worms as a name, I can tell you that!

bran · 18/08/2008 14:13

I would say Eve-lyn, it was my grandmother's name and that's how she pronounced it. I think Ev-eh-lyn is much more common in Ireland though, I remember that the priest at my grandmother's funeral kept referring to her as Ev-eh-lyn even though he had been told beforehand that it was Eve-lyn.

seeker · 18/08/2008 14:16

EVE-lyn, in my opinion But remember she will be having this conversation with everyone she meets all her life - which is probably a good reason for not using the name!

katiepotatie · 18/08/2008 14:19

I know an Eve-lyn and Eva-lyn. I suppose it depends on which you like better, is it for your baby??

blueshoes · 18/08/2008 15:16

Eve-lyn. Ever-lyn is American pronunciation.

JulesJules · 18/08/2008 15:18

I know an Eve-lyn and an Ev-lin. Personal choice I think.

Ev lin from me too, and I'm Scottish.

chipmonkey · 18/08/2008 15:31

I know a few Evelyns here in Ireland and they are all Ev-uh-len.
Obviously a cultural thing!

mybabysinthegarden · 18/08/2008 15:37

I always thought it was Eve-lyn for a guy and Ever-lyn for a girl.

mybabysinthegarden · 18/08/2008 15:38

(or Ev-lyn for a girl, soft 'e' anyway)

saltire · 18/08/2008 15:57

I don't get why it would be pronounced "Everlyn" when there is no R in it

prettybird · 18/08/2008 15:59

Ev-lin here as well - and I'm also in Scotland.... a theme seems to be emerging.

Wags · 18/08/2008 16:00

Yup, have a scottish friend who we all call Eve, but her sister always calls her Ev lin.

ethanchristopher · 18/08/2008 17:56
