Mirabelle- poncey or not?

Expecting DC2 in January and my DH and I love Mirabelle but are concerned it could sound a bit poncey, especially when you tell your Nan the name...

Thoughts anyone?

Our DS is called Hugh/Hughie if that assists!

I think its lovely and`will go well with Hughie. Go for it.

I like Annabel but that is one of DH's ex girlfriend's names and I think that could be weird too. Expecially if we bumped into her and Hubbie said yes "this is Annabel, Annabel". She'd think stalker...

"Mira!" - isn?t that something Dora the Explorer frequently shouts. Must mean something in Spanish.. might be worth checking first

otherwise I guess it is quite pretty and different. You will be asked endlessly how to spell it though - but this shouldn?t necessarily put you off. Nice to be a little different sometimes and love the way it sounds with Hugh.

We were thinking shortenings could be Mirrie/Belle/Bella. Will have to check out what Dora is saying.

Re Marco Pierre White, we also have fond memories of meals at Mirabelle but couldn't cite naming the poor child after a restaurant! Could yet be having a boy (scan next week) so all academic yet but thanks for thoughts. Fave boy name is Alfred incidentally.

Belinda can be shortened to Belle

if you want to shorten it, why not just name her Belle? thats what my parents did to me, and i like it

I prefer the anglicised version, which is Mirabel. Nice name though. Not particularly poncy imo, but that's not saying much coming from me as I am the Duchess Poncetastic of Ponce.

'Mira' in Spanish means 'look'. Mirabelle would loosely translate as nice to look at or nice view (although 'belle' is more French rather than Spanish).

It's lovely. I know a very kindly and wise older Mirabelle (knew her pre the telly series) so I think of her. But Mama Mirabelle is also kinda cool herself (she is Floella Benjamin you know! )

You could shorten into Belle, Bella or Miri - I knew a funky Miri at college.

But not Mirabelle. They are quite similar, but one is the frothed up version with a flake and hundreds and thousands on it. Prefer simpler Maribel.

ha ha, laughing at the x girlfriend situation. My friend's x was William and now she lives in USA. she thought she'd NEVER bump into x again, but she did!!!! She said she nearly dropped the baby it was so embarrassing. He just shrugged in a 'women never forget me' way.

I do love it and so does my other half. I am getting less "poncey" comments than I thought so that is good.

Other girl's names we like are Harriet, Gabriella and Sophia but Mirabelle is definitely the joint fave!

On the variation of the spelling to Mirabel, I thought people may find it more difficult to pronounce/spell...maybe they would say to rhyme with 'orrible if you get me?
