For a girl(you can never tell on this topic!) My dh and dc like it but everyone else has looked horrified.

I wanted to see if that was the general consensus.

I love the name Beatrix.

belgo · 12/08/2008 16:27

sorry!

I would go for Beatrice, and Beatie for short.

Beata is another european version which I like.

MadreInglese · 12/08/2008 16:27

Is it short for Beatrice?

SoupKitchen · 12/08/2008 16:28

I love it too but prefer Beatrice as a longer version

whatanuttermess · 12/08/2008 16:30

No just Beattie.

I would always give the full name then shorten, it gives the child more options when they are older.

Lionstar · 12/08/2008 16:33

Oh no, just brings those BT adverts to mind, you know the ones with that Maureen Lipman woman "you got an 'ology"

In fact here it is

whatanuttermess · 12/08/2008 16:34

Lionstar how old are you?

Nobody has mentioned that!

OP posts:
pointydog · 12/08/2008 16:35

Beatrice is nice, Beattie for short.

Dragonbutter · 12/08/2008 16:36

To me, it's a scottish surname.
I don't find it pretty.
I do like Beata/Beatrix/Beatrice though.

Lionstar · 12/08/2008 16:36

Gahh accidentally gave my age away. Actually am only 30-cough-ish

saltire · 12/08/2008 16:38

It's a Scottish surname - Good old Border reviers name
I like Beatrice though

MissKubelik · 12/08/2008 16:41

makes me think of Maureen Lipman too! I am merely 32... definitely an old lady name, in the same league as Doris, Irene, etc.

I much prefer Beatrice or Beatrix, Bea for short.

Megglevache · 12/08/2008 16:46

OOOh OOOH this is my daughter's name and I can say that everyone who hears her name reacts the same way as PointyDog

MuffinMclay · 12/08/2008 16:49

I love it! Do prefer Beatrice though.

Megglevache · 12/08/2008 16:52

Do you Muffin, really?

pointydog · 12/08/2008 16:55

Sorry, megg. I comment on the name, not the children of course

blissieblue · 12/08/2008 16:55

I just think of it as a surname - quite odd for a little girl I think

DoubleBluff · 12/08/2008 16:58

Beatirce with Beattie for short.
MAkes me think Batty

CantSleepWontSleep · 12/08/2008 17:01

It's a shop to me.

Beatrice is nice though.

clumsymum · 12/08/2008 17:03

Oh, my sister's MIL is called Beattie, and to be honest that colours my judgement cos she's completely BARKING ...

I don't think it's a particularly pretty name.

Megglevache · 12/08/2008 17:07

Pointy I'm not bothered- I didn't get shirty. Her "proper" name is Beabea but everyone thought that was a stripper's name. My ds renamed her.

My poor, poor children.

I've had a year of hearing err and whaaat? Normally from mums who's children's names (I won't mention)I don't fancy much either so fair's fair.

pookamoo · 12/08/2008 17:14

Yep, I instantly thought of Maureen Lipman too (and I am LESS than 30 )
But I really like Beatrice for long and Beattie for a nickname!
