For a girl(you can never tell on this topic!) My dh and dc like it but everyone else has looked horrified.

I wanted to see if that was the general consensus.

Thinking of Balfour...

CoteDAzur · 12/08/2008 18:21

Please don't.

Bitty. Beastie. Beat it. Why would you do that to your child?

What is wrong with real names?

cyteen · 12/08/2008 18:29

Hate it, but then I hate Beatrice/Beatrix too.

Spidermama · 12/08/2008 18:33

I think it's really nice.

myalias · 12/08/2008 18:38

I know a couple of Beatie's in their 60's and they get called Beat!!!

loobylu3 · 12/08/2008 19:05

Beatrix and Beatrice are such beautiful names as is Beata. Maybe Beattie as a nickname only!

Megglevache · 12/08/2008 19:52

Cote, tick, tick and tick.

She also gets called beatbox. Lovely.

Spidermama & Hatrick, how did I know that you were going to like Beattie

paolosgirl · 12/08/2008 19:56

Beattie = Maureen Lipman = he got an ology = BT = British Telecom

Don't do it to the wee girl. Please.

NorkyButNice · 12/08/2008 20:04

Love Beatrice - not a fan of Beattie as a given name though (Sorry MeggleVache!). It's a bit too surname-y for my tastes.

I had a friend who was called Beatrice, nickname BeaBea till she was went to uni where she insisted on Bea.

And I remember the BT adds and I'm only 28!

Megglevache · 12/08/2008 20:05

Do you think her class mates in 3 years time will think the same?
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

hazeyjane · 12/08/2008 20:14

I think Beatrice or Beata (meaning 'blessed')
are nicer, and softer sounding.

CuckooClockWorkOrange · 12/08/2008 20:17

I'll be diplomatic for once. I LOVE the name Beatrix.

I knew a German girl called Beata pronounced Beyata. Which is ok. Maybe that is short for Beatrice/?

CoteDAzur · 12/08/2008 20:21

Beatrice/Beatrix are quite nice, actually.

Why don't you name her one of these and call her Beatie? Then she will have a real name to fall back on when she goes to university or starts a career.
