What do we think of name Tai for DS? Let me explain before too many of these .
DP and I liked Kai, general consensus was that its not super popular, esp with mnetters!!! Anyway went off that and havent found another boys name we really like, dp works with kids which makes it hard. Also we were in Thailand when we found we were expecting and both have a bit of a love affair with country. The middle name will be very traditional English name, as per family tradition, which am hoping will negate the 'but you're not from south east asia' comments and we both have huge families who seem to put me off names easily so I thought I'd run this by strangers and hope to make a decision once and for all. Due in less than 3 weeks and dont even know if it is a boy. Ta.

I don't really like it, but if you are calling it after the country shouldn't you spell it Thai?

PinkPussyCat · 07/08/2008 12:35

Ok I will admit it does sound a bit feminine!

Jackstini · 07/08/2008 12:36

I quite like it actually but believe the male spelling is Ty? Depends on middle name and surname too

lizinthesticks · 07/08/2008 14:04

Nope. Maybe if your surname was Fune.

or if the surname was Wan.
Love Fune

or Bride!

Sorry am being silly.
Not my cup of tea , sorry. Sounds a bit makeyuppy and 'too cool for school' to me. Also a bit girlie.
Sorry.
Try again!

I personally think its up to you what you call your baby, I don't think its a stupid name at all. Some of the names people call there children are just ridiculous, like those twins being called Fish and Chips? Seriously, how do people come up with these names?lol I think Tai is fine, or Thai or Ty, however you'd like to spell it.

sweetkitty · 07/08/2008 16:13

Friends little boy is called Tighe) she pronounces it Ty, I'm not overly keen TBH he will be spelling his name forever

norkmaiden · 07/08/2008 16:15

not keen on Kai or Tai, sorry

hw2004 · 07/08/2008 20:36

Sorry not keen on Kai or Tai. However, i'm not keen on super modern names like that so it maybe just me!!

pointydog · 07/08/2008 20:47

not fond of it

CantSleepWontSleep · 07/08/2008 20:50

Hard to be both honest and kind when you suggest a 'name' like Tai.

Eilatan · 07/08/2008 21:15

I worry about fashionable names, they go out of fashion. But I don't see why, in a multi cultural country, you have to stick with British names. My lil un is James (I played safe) but it must have been a middle eastern/ Hebrew name once. Tai sounds like a martial art tho...and Kai a bit like some sort of health tea... What's in a name...well as a teacher, I've got to admit conclusions are jumped to (ie if parents have different surnames - I know that's awful!!!!). If I had a Tai or a Kai I might think "hippies!"...which is better than chav! I hated my name (reverse my nickname) because it was very inusual when I was a kid now it's a bit too common. If I'd had a girl I fancied Rosa (for Rosa Parks and Rosa Luxanberg sp?)and I really liked Jude for a boy but then I remembered that gloomy Thomas Hardy book!

Sidge · 07/08/2008 21:25

Um, no. Sorry. It doesn't even sound like a name. And you'll get people pronouncing it Tay.

If you like the sound of it why not go for Tyrone, Tyson, Tyler or Tyrus and call him Ty for short?

God no not James, so booorrring [yawn]

What about Ptolomey or Mungo or Jago? Much more fun

onebatmother · 07/08/2008 21:32

Um, 'Cy' instead? Cy Twombly is a v groovy abstract impressionist artist..

If you really are determined to have Tai I think it would be less 'go-offy'if you go for it properly and name him Thai.

But I'm (kindly) not keen, I'm afraid.

jellybeans · 07/08/2008 22:01

I like it.

chandellina · 07/08/2008 22:04

My DH was keen on Kai but i hated it. It's actually number 60 or something on the top 100 UK names, so pretty common.
My alternative was Tyler - "Ty"
DH doesn't like that unfortunately, but could be the compromise for you guys.

cherrieberry · 07/08/2008 22:08

having unusual names makes you a stonger more confident person!!!! i like it

cthea · 07/08/2008 22:10

Sorry, I don't like the name.

MrsTicklemouse · 07/08/2008 22:35

a freind has a Tye who is lovely but i think Tai looks more girly

gastronaught · 07/08/2008 22:39
