Max - a cop-out?

Baby is three days old and badly in need of a name.
Our most recent thinking was Cormac - with nickname of Mack - but thinking it may be just a bit too obscure outside of Ireland (and we have no Ireland connection either).
We thought it could also get continually confused with Max.
I always thought Max was a bit too much of an "easy" choice - a little too trendy or popular or something.
But maybe it is actually a perfect and simple name?
Please advise!!

Monty?

nappyaddict · 04/08/2008 09:55

Biff? Kit?

I actually really like the name Max on its own. I know it has become more popular lately but I do not know any Maxs in my area. I would consider it but its our rabbits name ( already named when bought )so may be a bit weird
Go for it

gilbert? cuthbert? hubert?

ilovemydog · 04/08/2008 16:21

have you decided yet ?

chandellina · 04/08/2008 23:17

looks like it will be Cormac on birth certificate.
Mack for day to day.

still a little concerned about the whole Irish thing but we like the name so are going to be brave.

good for you!

great choice!

chandellina · 06/08/2008 19:36

changed mind - still Mack, but think given name will be Macsen. dh's mum is welsh so we don't feel pretentious as with cormac, and the name is really growing on us.

oh heavens, still can't decide. DH now is saying not Macsen - too obscure.
Maybe just Mack or Max. My mum and SIL both hate Mack. That's their problem though!
this is driving me nuts!!

(whisper) Mac is a popular dog's name in Scotland

specialmagiclady · 15/08/2008 20:41

Nooooo - don't cop out based on what a bunch of other people think. Go for the name you love. We named our DS2 a 2nd choice name and we sometimes call him the "weird" name just to see if it would have suited him. ANd it does!

Maksim (Serbo-Croat} is cool.

Podrick · 16/08/2008 09:19

3 Max's in dd's class - a v common name
There are no Cormacs though

I like Cormac

katiepotatie · 16/08/2008 09:33

Cormack is lovely...who cares if you don't have Irish or Scottish connections. Call him whatever you like,(everyone will have an opinion though) It's much better than Max too

Ashantai · 16/08/2008 12:38

Choose whatever name you like, and who cares if the name is irish, scottish or jamaican!

Cormac and Max are both really nice names, so do what you want, but dont change it to suit everyone and then later regret it

surprise · 16/08/2008 18:07

I think anyone called Cormac would just get called Caramac. Not a big fan of Irish names though.

jellybeans · 16/08/2008 18:21

Don't like Cormac but Max and Maxwell are nice.

ethanchristopher · 18/08/2008 18:19
